Mine has recently started doing it so took it to the garage who replaced the clutch master cylinder. This hasn't helped and, if anything, has made it worse as the clutch pedal now stays firmly stuck to the floor.

Working the pedal around 50 times by hand gives me some kind of pedal but doesn't last for more than a couple of depressions.

The clutch hydraulics have been bled 3 times which gives a good pedal for a few gear changes but the problem comes back again.

The garage are now suggesting that it may be a slave cylinder located in the gear box but this is going to cost a small fortune without a gaurantee of curing the fault.

Please help before I throw more money at the garage!

hmm the title suggests a common problem which has happened to lots of people described here

Essentially after years of use the clutch pedals wear and are prone to snapping, £40 worth of parts and the RAC fixed mine labour free. Could the garage of missed that it's just the pedal thats snapped?

Edit: were there bits of plastic in the drivers foot well when it happened? Just another idea, It is a bit odd that you get the pedal back for a few uses though.

mine was like this today, couldn't find any gears, it was as though the clutch was doing nothing, when i pressed it all the way to the floor the rev's didn't drop, but i just lifted it by hand and it was fine for the rest of my 2hour journey?

Sounds like slave cylinder, Mine did it a few years back, Gearbox off job

99% Slave cylinder may as well put new uprated clutch in at same time as 7 odd hrs labour sadly...

If youre located near Gloucester i may be able to sort u a deal out on the labour as my friend owns vw/audi specialist garage

me and my mate can do the labour, pain in the **** job though.
i've got a vr6 uprated flywheel, i would put in at the same time

Cheers for the input guys. Looks like I'll be shelling out more cash (There was no plastic in the footwell and the garage haven't noticed any leaks.

I also appreciate the offer of labour but the car is currently with a VW specialist and I'm away from home until just before Christmas. Looks like I'll have to leave it with him to get it sorted rather than being a bus ****** once I get back. :p

mine wasn't stuck all the way down, just 50% lower than usual

Expect an 8 hr or more labour bill and another £400 in parts assuming they change the clutch, slave cyl, and dual mass flywheel

The stupid thing is, the slave cyl is only £30 on it's own but the labour is such it's not worth not doing the clutch while it's apart

i think the vr6 clutch which i would need is only about £80, ive already got the flywheel, i'll wait and see what happens, as mine seems to be ok now
