Hi,

Please can someone explain to me how the flap in the exhaust works (solenoid driven), and its purpose ?

Thanks

It's controlled by the ECU I think. It's there to reduce noise at low revs.

Can I ask why you want to know?

Staz, as per this thread: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=82565 , which you also replied to, I am still trying to work out why my exhaust has gone as quiet as it has gone now.

I logged it again, and I found that the waste gate duty cycle had changed a bit. I suspected a leak, and lo and behold, I found that a silicon pipe going to the Forge DV was torn.

This however did not sort out the issue on the sound of the car.
Another way to explain what the car is doing, is that there is a lack of back pressure in the system. I do not have that "gush" out of the exhaust anymore.

Hence, I was wondering how that solenoid works i.e when it is open/closed ? What activates the solenoid, etc.

Thanks

Aha I remember now. I don't know how the lever is controlled mate but it's probably worth modding it just in case:
