Afternoon,

Cars just failed it's MOT with a fractured rear coil.

What's the official way of replacing it? I've watched a few videos that show the following way:

But if I'm reading the Elsa correctly they show it using a spring compressor.

Any ideas the easiest/preferred method?

Thanks

Spring compressor would be easier imo as you wouldn't have to undo the wishbone, however if you don't have one to hand then do it this way. Just be careful with the spring compressor if you've not used one before - they can be lethal!

Elsa doesn't always show the easiest/most logical method imo.
Id do what the video shows

Does anyone know the correct the part number for a 2012 S3 Rear coil spring?

You just undo the lower arm bolt, lower the arm down and swap the springs. 10min job (jack up car, axle stand, jack up the lower arm at the hub end, undo the bottom bolt, lower jack down, pull spring out, new spring in, jack up arm, bolt back in; fully tighten this bolt when the car is back on the ground).

Don't risk your face messing with spring compressors in such a tight space.
