Sorry for all the posts recently guys but new car and all that.

I've noticed some potential issue with the gearbox in my 2015 S6. 52k on the clock.

When cold the first few gear changes jerky/stuttering. Also when driving at low say 20mph take foot off accelerator the car jerks a little
And when in reverse nothing nothing the boom shots you back.

I've never driven a dual clutch box so it might be quirks of it or could be an issue.

It just feels unpredictable.

Also at low speed with wheel turned and moving off Im getting vibration.

Any opinions or experience welcomed.
Car is booked in mechanical checks in 2 weeks time

Cheers
Paul

When was the dsg/stronic box serviced ?
Looks like signs of needing a service or mechatronics unit failing.
had a 2015 3.0tdi with stronic and I would say it was silky smooth most of the time.

Box oil was changed at 38k miles on the nose.

Might be worth getting a specialist to check it out. could be dsg oil level too low.
there was a way to reset the gearbox so it re-learned certain parameters but not sure how it’s done on the c7. Maybe can be in vcds. Worth a shot

The full lock vibration goes away as soon as select neutral whilst rolling. Which makes me think 100% a gearbox issue

Also noticed some strange noises from what I think is the gearbox. Listen to attached sound clip. Hard to hear but it's a grumble/rattle from the back of the engine like under the turbos.
Starting to get rather worried about this car now.

What are my rejection rights? Only had it 6 ****** days

If you get an engineers report to say it needs thousands of pounds in repairs then you may have a good chance of rejection but you have to give the dealer a chance to rectify it first. Was it a franchise dealer? Approve used should have warranty.
I had the 272 3.0tdi and that produces similar torque(probably more) to the s6. I did 60+k miles on mine and it was fine. I drove mine pretty hard and it was fine when I sold it.No noises or weird shifts. Unless yours has been remapped, I doubt it could damage the gearbox. Computer would have intervened before damage could happen.

Why do I have to give them chance to fix it? From what I've read, if the car develops a fault in the first 30 days you can reject for a full refund.
This car clearly had issues at the point of sale.

It’s a used car so can’t be perfect. It has to develop a major fault for rejection. A weird noise could be anything from something as simple as a loose heat shield to gearbox or engine failing.
car garages would go under if folks just didn’t like the car and took it back for refund with simple issues like a blown bulb. I’ve only ever rejected a new car I’ve bought and have been told by trading standards the dealer needs a chance at rectifying it to my satisfaction before I could reject. Luckily, in an odd way, both times I’ve had major things failing like gearbox or engine or both.
if you don’t want them to try and fix it then you have to prove beyond doubt there is a major fault with a third party engineers report at your cost which could be hundreds of pounds.

It's going to a gearbox specialist next Wednesday so we'll see what they say but this is not just a loose heat shield. I've been around enough cars for long enough to know when somethings not right.

Sorry I wasn’t doubting that or trying to insult you, might have came across that way reading back at what I posted. Was just letting you know my experience rejecting a car. Last one took me 7-8 months and 12 trips to dealers for repairs before Land Rover ruled in my favour. The consumer laws aren’t just there to protect consumers, businesses need protecting as well from dodgy consumers(not saying you are dodgy). It goes both ways.
As mentioned before a gearbox calibration might do wonders as it relearns the clamping force etc for the clutches and can make it drive a lot smoother. Other things it could be is the mechatronic unit which is around £1k just for part then maybe another £500 for labour and fluids.
hope you get this sorted. The s6 is a lovely car and rare as hens teeth. Was looking for one to replace my 3.0tdi and ended up with new s3 as I couldn’t find one to match even the specs on my old 3.0tdi. Also didn’t need a big car cause mrs had one.

Sorry mate I wasn't having a go, I'm just a little upset and nervous at the thought my 30k car has problems you know.
I love how smooth the car is at speed and love the interior etc just concerned about engine and gearbox issues with it being such a big expensive lump.
I'll know more next week.

totally understandable.
Yeah not cheap when things go wrong with these cars. Mate had issues with stronic boxes and was quoted north of £10k to replace. Think it’s the same dsg box in the s6 as the 3.0tdi

I have had 3 DSG cars in the family. I prefer the feel of those with wet clutches to those with dry - they seem to be smoother starting off. The dry clutch cars do have their foibles when starting off from cold - i have absolutely no idea what sort of clutch pack the S6 has.
I would investigate the recalibration first.
You do need expert advice to advise you whether what you are experiencing is "within tolerance" for an S6 gearbox. Especially if the car has a FASH.

Good luck.....

Hi,

What was the verdict on your gearbox?

John

It's ****** mechatronic needs repaired of replacement and they recommended clutch pack and flywheel as judder and slip from the clutch and rattle from the flywheel. 2700 to repair best case or 4k worse case with new mech unit. I'm currently trying to reject the car with the garage I bought it from. But go figure they are not returning my calls

That’s unfortunate.
you could try trading standards and see what they can do to help. They have standard template letters to send.
another option is get the garage to pay for the repairs, at least that way if you keep the car you know the gearbox is good.

Tbh there is other smaller issues with the car and I'm just not happy with it and have lost faith in it very quickly. I just hope the garage does the right thing and accepts the rejection

Wishing you a smooth return procedure.

Out of interest, how was the gearbox tested? Electric diagnosis or physical checks?

Both mate. They test drove it and confirmed the symptoms I had described. They know these s tronic boxes inside out and knew the issue straight away

Is it S Tronic, DSG or ZF as BiTdi? I thought S Tronic was everything up to BiTdi?

It has a 7 speed s tronic

Oh interesting. Shame that you have to be going through this but hope that you find a solution and replacement soon!

Hi Paul,

An S-tronic gearbox that is shagged after 52k miles is not good news - you have my sympathy.

I presume that some guys try plenty of launches in their S6's.

If the S-tronic gearbox is a weak point then maybe go for an equivalent Merc (E63?) or BMW M-car. Mind you, I met an E63 driver going for test drive at an Audi dealership because the car was a true handful in the wet! Or go to a reputable independent - we have Fontain Motors down here in the Home Counties.

Part of the attraction of buying from a franchised dealer is the 30-day no-quibble return guarantee. I threatened a VW dealer with that when buying my son's Golf recently - and the principal immediately agreed to pay for new discs and pads all round.

Good luck with the return.

Thanks guys

I have managed to speak to the garage and expressed my wish to reject the car, guy said they have the opportunity to repair which I swiftly told him he doesn't and that I will be rejecting the car. Waiting for a phone back from him to supposedly come up with a plan. Not sure if our plans will be the same but we'll see. I would like to know today what his position is so I can get some sleep tonight

I’m sure if you tell him it’s needing a £4K job and you have seen a specialist engineer they would take the car back and most likely fob it off to someone else.

More than likely.

They have agreed to take the car back and refund but have asked me to take it back. 315 miles away

I would say small price to pay mate…315 mile drive and train back.

Yeah they are paying the fuel and train money so just 10 hours of my time wasted but worth it to dodge a bullet and yes car shopping again. Thinking I'd going back to a newer 2018ish Bitdi. I know those engines and prefer the 8 speed ZF over the s tronic

I'd be considering the C8 platform with the 286 PS engine + ZF torque converter auto.

Lol yes I have seen that c8 but milage is high ish.

Would love a c7.5 Bitdi but then for 30k I want something a little newer and with more tech etc. I'm so un decided

In my view the price of ULEZ-compliant BiTDi's is silly high, but so is everything at the moment.
Especially when car brokers such as drivethedeal are still offering £11K off a new one (if you take out a PCP).

I always want the latest tech, even in a second-hand vehicle.

An Audi Approved Used warranty is worth £500 + the breakdown cover.
