Ive just spoke with Audi regards my next service (my cars nearly done 80k), they tell me the next one is a 'Major' one so me being me asked exactly what that involves to which I get the reply;

Oil + Filter
Air Filter
Polen FIlter
Spark plugs

I was expecting something 'Major' haha all that plus there usual health check and clean (which im sure they dont do anyway as when my car was in for the coil pack recall they said they had adjusted my washer jets etc and it was clear they had not as one of my jets was and is still squirting low onto my screen and needs adjusting) all in for £270.

Quick phone call to my mum and I can get the parts all in for £78 oh and while Im there the MoT is due in Sept and when Audi replaced the coil packs the other day they mentioned about my dics being worn yeah yeah yeah I know, again parts for that £80 from my mum so all in £160 for the above and Im still saving myself £110 on the dealers price for a 'Major' serivce.

I cannot understand anyone who would want to use a dealer just because of a stamp and pay over the odds for work that is sooo easy to do yourself especially with help from forums like these and in a time when people are trying to save money.

What size engine does your car have? Audi have fixed servicing costs on all vehicles under 2.0L and over 3 years old...

Although they have gone up. It was £99, £199 when I last did my A3.

I guess it depends on the age / mileage also. For a motor under 100k Audi service history would certainly be an advantage. Over 100k I don't think it matters so much. Although if its reaching 200k, a FASH would be a big bonus.

Mines a 1.8t and really if its a major service as Audi call it yet all the parts are easy to change yourself it doesnt really matter how many miles your car has done espeically if your going to keep it and have no plans on replacing it.

Take for instance a full brake pad and disc change, at audi it costs you £500 acording to that link now would you pay that for a job as easy as changing the brakes? I know I wouldnt when I can get all the parts all in for £80 and a few hours of my own time to do it.

Some are, some are not Ive never had a problem with any parts I get from her.

The price of parts do vary they do cheap cheap parts and then more expensive ones it depends on what they stock really.

She knows I dont have cheap parts on my car but then when you say OEM Audi dont manufacture all of there own parts so I dont bother getting in the weeds asking those sorts of questions she just knows what are the good parts and what are crap i.e. what dealers and garages like to order over other parts if your with me?!
 
Yea Im in complete agreement Major service, I can only imagine an interval service is a look under the bonnet!!!!!
I to was shocked for what you get for the money. I did think it was reasonable for a major service until i found out what you get.

Obviously for changing brakes and stuff like that, its a different story. But for the general oil and filter servicing, I don't think its that much more to pay to have the FASH, that'll help come goodwill time should something major go wrong.
 
Ha ha ha.

Well, checking the B7 forum, the 170 BHP injector problem seems like Audi will replace under "goodwill" a lot easier if you have kept your FASH. Now with that costing £1500+ per injector, it's worthwhile keeping it up.

I see your point but £270 for a 'major' service against £80 for the parts and me doing it (even Audi charge £120 for the parts alone) Id be mad to let Audi do it just becuase of a stamp when really looking at it not one part of the 'major' service is really that onerous to carry out yourself especially as the parts as soo accessible in the engine bay on the B6 1.8t.

Plus that way I know it has been done rather than trusting a dealer has done all what they say, if they can tell me the have lubricated my door hinges, repositioned my washer jets etc and they obviously hadn't then whats that really say for the honesty of a dealer?!

Each to there own but thats my opinion.
 
Audi Northampton charge £50 per hour on cars that are over 10 years old, my last oil service was £99 and I had the MOT done for free at the same time, i cant complain to hard at them prices, and yes my service book is stamped and the full ASH is continued.

That's the one good thing they do seem to do... I've had very mixed feelings about them for a while... after some fairly unpleasant dealings with one of my local dealers, I changed and found another one who treats me like I'm pulling up R8 spyder, not a 10yr old TDI... coffee served in the waiting area, courtesy calls, offers of a better courtesy car when they had to keep the car back another day (even though is was kinda my fault they did: it failed it's MOT on a "bubbled" tyre which they couldn't replace as it was a specialist winter tyre... they swapped my winters over for my summer wheels and redid the MOT.... and I had a decent car to play with for that time :)
 
I wouldnt wait till 80k fella. had mine done at 60k!

Ive also never had a problem with my local dealer they seem fair but it is still the case I can do a full service and a disc and pads change and still come out with change from the £270 that audi would charge me for a 'major' service.

It gets my goat when people mention good will and when things going wrong you have come back on a dealer etc etc, I have a mate who Ive offered to do his brakes and he wont instead he prefers going to BMW as you have come back if anything goes wrong. I keep telling him in the 12 years I have been driving I have always done my own pads and discs and never had a problem but its his lost and my gain as its all £££'s in my pocket at the end of the day and not the dealer stamp or no stamp.

As for free MoT's the past 2 Ive had have been free and Ive been happy with the service but in this time of trying to save pennies I can save a good deal of money and more by doing this service my self even if I have to pay for my next MoT.
 
Can't believe so many of you are still that naive to think FASH has any added value on a 7+ year old Audi compared to the £1000's wasted on getting it. Crazy. Read some of the horror stories on here if you think the dealers are good value.
****** expensive free cups of coffee if you ask me, customer service non existant when it inevitably goes wrong.
Remember these are the jokers that don't change a £35 water pump when they do a £500 cambelt change, but never fail to charge you £3.80 to refill your washer fluid unbelievably stupid
If I want to get royally shafted I'll go to a high class hooker as they charge about the same per hour and guarantee customer satisfaction.

Andy mac is 100% on the money, They are not interested unless you look like you are made of money and are going to buy a new car. Its the same in all these types of dealers which sell the more "higher end models". Its completely different if you say walk into a vauxhall dealership.

Yep, in my case the local Renault/Vauxhall main dealer will break your car on every occasion, scrape the paint work, fail to get main engine components for over 6 months and leave oil and marks all over your dashboard and seats, I kid you not..... my local Audi dealer is fine and the tech guys are cool with advice for DIYs like me who do the easy stuff like fitting pads and discs etc. I wouldnt go near a French car or dealer network ever again.
 
Well I did the full service today, just dont know why anyone would want to waste the money via a dealer just for the stamp?! I have been lazy in the past and got a FASH but as of today its going to be all my own work in future much more rewarding and doesnt take that much time at all.
 
Well I think if i'm honest I wouldn't let and dealership mechanic near my car. And If I absolutely have to use a garage its would be a small independent garage. I cant safely say Ive never had a garage service any of my cars, I always do it myself. Saves me a fortune. Which i spend on other stuff I like doing.
