Hi Everyone,

One of the side window of our car is badly scratched and I wanted to know how much would replacement cost?

I’d like to just source the glass and fit it myself as I’ve taken off the door cards/regulator before so I think I’ll be fine.

Does anyone know where to get the glass from? Assuming it’s less than £75 (glass replacement excess) I guess it would be worth it.

Thanks.

You’d be shocked. A mate of mine locked himself out of his van once. It was cheaper to smash an replace the windscreen over the drivers window. (He paid for lock smith in the end)

I have this and am going to look into getting them polished.

I wanted to fix the glass before any tinting. Otherwise the scratches will show up even more pronounced!

Polishing glass it no easy job. Glass is many times harder than paint and you’ll need specialist compound and a lot of patience just to even cover small scratches.

Edit: side window glass is also covered by insurance and doesn’t affect NCB.

New 3 door glass on eBay for £60 as a guide.

I stand corrected. Cheaper than I thought.

Having looked into eBay for the items available, I don’t think they represent realistic pricing.

Typical of that place. It seems to have its own pricing, which half the time is unrealistic
