Obviously you have H&R and Eibach etc.....but I have been browsing DPM and they show Spax springs.

Used to have spax suspension on my 306 years ago, was good to be honest.

Anyone used these?

Im not looking for ultra lows or any of that, just gonna even the reverse rake up at a respectable price.

Spax sit roughly middle of the range by the looks of it, so your opinions appreciated.

I'd be interested in these as well otherwise it's the eibach ones for me

I think you should be the test monkey for these Davy! ;)

Then post some pictures... :)

I'm not sure a 25mm drop will be enough on the front , the back would be fine at that though.

This is "rOb_A"'s car, or was, cant remember if he sold it, irrelevant anyway.

50mm on front and 40mm back....Eibach Sport Lines

So we need something more along the lines of that I think...but obviously thats not an S3...so slightly different story

Ive just bought the H&R springs and the rear springs are actually taller than the standard ones... only fitted them today so I'm going to let them settle a bit but it's actually sitting higher at the back now... fronts are being fitted Monday/Tuesday.

The springs do seem more progressive though.

H&R are £100 more can that be justified ???

Thats the predicament mate :uhm:

I always like to buy something that others dont have, be the odd one out, you know?...

so i'll scratch my head a bit more...

I have heard that with the H&R and that did put me off a little!

I've got the Eibach 25mm springs on the front of my S3 (the exact same as yours - except SB), and they are just the ticket mate.

The front and back is almost perfectly the same - which always makes me wonder how people get on when they lower the back and front by the same amount on springs - without coilovers, as surely the back will always be lower?

Isn't it funny Mike, when I was younger (read "boy racer") all the snobs amongst us used to slag off Spax, when actually they were pretty good. I have had them on a few cars. British-made and engineered, reasonably-priced and always seemed to perform well. Will be very interested to see any reports on these, nice to see Spax coming back up too - Magnex next?!

Oh and take a look at my thread for a review of the Eibach springs...

British engineered..... how worrying!!?

Very tempted by them....think I'll await payday and have a butchers...spent all my cash on fixing the rear bumper and light!

Just wonder if 25mm on the front is enough :-/ and indeed if I go lower each end by 25mm, I'd still be in the reverse rake position!

So perhaps false economy buying 4 springs when 2 would do the trick nicely.

I get that mate, plus bear in mind that reverse rake on a lowered chassis will only exacerbate the characteristics we're trying to minimise...

Springs have settled down now and I'm happy with the height of the H&R's on the rear now. They are more comfortable too which is a bonus.

Are they better on a B road then (a proper B road)? And is there any bounce going on?

Lincolnshire only had proper B roads! They are firm but certainly less crashy. A little bit of bounce but I'm still running standard springs in the front until Wednesday.

I have the 06 2.0 tdi sport.
Been considering new springs but i dont really want to make it uncomfortable to drive. My old Ibiza had sports suspension and was a nightmare over uneven roads and speed bumps.
What you mean by suspention crashing?

A lot of modern cars with hard suspension have a crashy ride and make it feel too firm like it isn't damped right. Audi are notorious for crashy suspension.

Running H&Rs here. Spax never even came into the equation during my research. It was H&R vs Eibach. Be interesting to see your findings on the Spax. By the way - what dampers are you planning to use with these springs?? Because thats another thing you need to take into consideration.

I'm still very much undecided about which to go for. I'll probably take the plunge with Spax, just to be a the guinea pig, and be a little different.

I just need to prioritise my cash at the moment.

As for shocks, i'll leave the standard ones in. Drop would be minimal, and they'll still function just fine.

If I was going to change the shocks too I'd just buy coilovers.

Ok cool but dont expect a great ride with lowering springs and standard shocks. I know this because thats what I am running and its widely not recommended. With the sort of power your running as well..

Yeah that's fair.

To be honest even the standard set up feels constantly harsh, especially with these winter tyres on!

I do tend to run quite a hard tyre too.

I'll see how I go with the standard shocks, and if it gets to me too much, guess the mrs can buy me coilovers for Xmas. :)

lol I had my heart set on KW v3s, then I got the H&R second hand at a great price. Now I think I might go for a set of B8s instead of coilies as I dont plan on tracking the car and Im happy with the ride height. Anyway let us know how you get on!

Will do, I won't be buying this month, but probably next. Depends if we hit target at work and If I get a bonus!

When I do I'll be sure to update here and my build thread.

And I will pop up to see what it rides like before I make a decision :friends:

Spoken to Damian @ DPM and although these Spax springs will fit the S3, the drop would only be about 10mm as the S3 is already lower than most.

So I won't be buying these..

I am looking for a set of lowering springs and leaning more towards the Eibach as the rear sits perfect as standard and rear the Eibach are pretty much stock spring rate but lower the front so doesn't effect handling of the car.
