Hi all

The main reason that I am posting this is so that it is able to be found by other users if they have the same issue in the future with any b8 model car.

Mine is a 2009 a4 3.0 tdi Quattro.

About 2 days ago, I had a strange issue develop out of nowhere. I turned the engine on and I suddenly had check engine oil, check coolant level, check brake fluid level, the reversing sensors wouldn't automatically turn on, the heated seats wouldn't stay on for more than 2 minutes and there was no temperature displayed.
The car itself still ran fine though. That was until yesterday where the battery was completely flat (battery is only 6 months old) when left overnight. I got the rac to come out and they started the car and I took it to Richards German car specialist in finedon, Northants.

Before I did this, I ran a quick vagcom scan and all sorts of communication faults were displayed along with front ambient outside temp sensor.
I believed the j519 unit was going to be faulty because this is where all of those components connect into.

The garage called me and said its either the j519 unit or the temp sensor. For the sake of £20, they replaced the temp sensor and suddenly all is well again!
I was expecting a much bigger bill!!

Just for anyone's info who may also think that their car is completely knackered!!

Nice one,bet that was a relief :)

Cheers guys. Yeah it's a huge relief but as rum4mo stated, I'm not counting myself as lucky just yet but the signs are looking good. Drove it today and all perfect again. Time will tell I suppose. It would make a little sense because all of those sensors share the same wiring loom and same module so could have been causing interference if the temp sensor had catastrophically failed

We had a similar issue with an A4.
Oil warning light on turned out to be the bonnet catch.

Oh well, there is some hope that that is that, being a retired test engineer I just always think/hope that root causes can be found as if not problems come back to bite you. Though it has to be said that any system's ability to self diagnose correctly is never perfect.

Thats daft the temperature sensor is just a resistor, unless it failed short circuit and is pulling the common earth 401 all those sensors share high.
Hopefully that will be the last you see of that. A cheap fix if it is.
Thanks for putting this up it may help somebody in the future, possibly me :) .
