Test drove a X3 M40i yesterday

My neighbour has recently taken delivery of a stock X3m, picked the best colour available to him then decided he didn’t like it! Went to look at getting roof wrapped and ended up getting whole car done!
@Audi Bairn have a look at TLC Detailing on fb or instagram, they have an M40i in grey with before and after detailing shots looks really good!

The issue with the used cars is the interest rates though, at 12% it makes no sense to buy used over new.

That is absolutely bonkers. Who on earth is going to pay 12.4% APR? Clearly they are either chancing their arm, or their customer base have too much money, and don't care?

Off to have a look at one today. Brand new, but registered Sept 2019. 10 miles on the clock, and sat in the showroom. Not quite the spec I wanted. No Pan roof, Park assist plus (for the GF) or Apple car play.

It does have however, the Comfort access pack, and the M sport plus pack, which has the 21" wheels, adaptive suspension etc. Few other extras including HK sound system. Pricing up the the website, it comes in at £58,280. They are selling it at £42,500. That's a saving of £15,780 !!!! Bonkers.

If they'll take my S3 as PX, I'll probably go ahead and buy it today.

Better deals are coming, trust me
Sounds like there will be around £2k discount in some form, we will see.

Gard-X is the same as the usual cr*p dealer try and flog

We’ve had hers 2.5 years now so no doubt they’ll be on the phone trying to get us in soon, that’s what happened with the one we have now.

If the deals improve then we’ll have a chat and see.

Enjoy. The HK Sound comes with the M Sport + Pack, at least it was the case when I got mine. I also wanted CarPlay but didn’t get it, so ended up paying £75 to get full screen coded. To be honest I hardly use it as the BMW system is so good

Cracking price there, so hopefully you like and they offer good deal in P/X

Can you still negotiate a deal using their PCP offer in order to get you the best deal possible, then under the cooling off period you pay if off using alternative finance (personnel loan etc)?

Yeah, PCP can be payed off at any point, sure it’s been said on ASN before that if it’s settled within 14days then you would pay no interest while taking advantage of any contributions.

Think it’s all changed recently, my dad had a 2017 430d GC msport plus and it came with HK as part of plus pack. However new X4 Msport plus he just collected doesn’t, its part of Tech pack now.

That’s the one thing I miss from my BM, the iDrive system is fantastic, years ahead of Audi’s offering, in my opinion.

I was wondering that when I typed it, hence my comment, as know they did tweak the packs and increased the M Sport Plus pack adding m seat belts and other items, as well as shadowline (black pack) as standard

Yeah, the new M Sport Plus pack now comes with sports seats, while before, they were the standard seats. HK Sound still part of pack, and unlike Audi, you can spec the car with HK sound without having to pay for a pack, that comes with half the things you don't want.

Deal Done !!!!

They struggled to get where I wanted them for my S3. I agreed to flog it to a specialist or WBAC. WBAC were offering more than they could match. However, on the drive home, they rang and bettered their offer to within a couple hundred pounds of where I wanted them to be. So said yes, and that means I can just drive the S3 down and pick up the new car. Otherwise it meant trains, or taking another car down. Hour and a half drive each way.

So yes, I'm now over to the dark side. My first BMW. Car (To me) look great, and the test drive a week or so ago, just blew me away with how fast and comfortable the car was. And when you can pick up a Brand new car, all be it registered 3 months ago, for a saving of nearly £16,000, it just becomes an absolute bargain.

Putting most of the S3 into the deposit, the monthly payments are just £110 a month. That's on PCP. Never thought I'd ever go down the PCP route, and thought about just paying it off. But at £110 a month? That's crazy when talking about a £58K spec car. As I'm self employed, lower monthies are better for me.

It's just a shame Audi have nothing that ticked my boxes. An RS5 in Red would have been nice, but they're £70k. £60k pre registered. But it would be a compromise over what we need from a car. Q3 RS? Too new, too ugly and no discounts. A £60k car, with a dashboard better suited to a £20k car. SQ5? Don't like the new design, and all Diesel now.

I'll be sad to see my S3 go. Been a great car, and it's the longest I've owned one car for. Engine issue aside, it's been flawless. Looked fantastic, went like stink when you needed it to, and had a manual gearbox (which I'll miss the most) to get some enjoyment at either 1 tenths, or 10 tenths. Just hope I don't regret it?

Great stuff it’s one beast of a car. I had my eyes set on the X3 (M40d) myself, as like yourself enjoyed every bit from the exterior, down to the little refinements on the inside and performance

Agree about Audi’s current lineup, it’s bone dry at the minute.

When do you pick the best up?

Nice one And as you say, those payments are a no brainer, especially @ that rate, so why bother paying off with lump sum of your cash.

So what is the spec and colour?

I shared your view on the SQ5 when I tested cars a couple of weeks ago. Didn't particularly want to go to diesel and really disliked the very fake noise it made, albeit performance was fantastic. An extra £400 Road Fund Licence over the M40i too

Phytronic Blue. Sports pack, comfort pack. HK sound system. Black leather. pick it up friday.

If anyone else is after an X3 M40i, I've got mine from Sandal BMW, Huddersfield. They have another 2 identical cars sat in the showroom. Priced at £42,500. A Saving of just under £16,000 off list.

So I had a choice of 3 cars. 2 were wearing Bridgestone tyres, and one wearing Pirelli P-Zero tyres. All Run flats. Went for the P-Zero's.

My mate got his a 6 series GT from there and his new X5 not too long ago, No complaints with the dealership customer service.

Are you a Huddersfield lad?

Not too far away from there myself and spend most weekends (for my sins) down at the town ground.

Congratulations on the new purchase!

No. I'm from Darlington. Hour and a half away, North. Travelling for a good deal doesn't bother me. Bought my then MK7 Golf GTI Performance from a dealer south of London, as they were £1700 cheaper than anything up here.

North East seems to be tough for car deals. Not sure why? Cooper BMW Teesside, who gave me the test car, now have their demo up for sale. Similasr spec to the one I've just bought. One or two extra bits, but nothing expensive. Registered Sept 2019. They're over £54,000, with 3000 miles on it. Nearly £12k more than the one I just got with 10 miles on the clock. Bonkers.

Plus round here, most car dealers are now Lookers. Deals have always been s**t with Lookers group, and they seem to have bought up everyone, including my local Audi dealer. So now you can't trade one dealer off against the other, to get the best price. Not allowed to compete with each other.

Makes you wonder how they sell cars doesn’t it, £54000 or £42500 for the one you’ve bought? No brainer.

I always thought the further ‘up norf’ you got the easier it was to find a better deal and further south you were toward London the higher the prices, after all London is the be all and end of this country as some would have you believe. I know of some southerners who think nothing exists this side of Watford Gap services!

None of the Audi dealerships could come close to the deal Glasgow Audi offered hence mine came from up there with a Scottish prefix on the reg.

Worked up Darlington a couple of times, there’s not much up there.

All this BMW talk/purchasing is making me want to get shut earlier!

Darlington is going the same way as many small towns TBH. High rents and business rates has decimated the town centre. Mostly cafes and charity shops now. We lost M&S, and nearly lost House of Frazer. If that goes, they'll be nothing left. Sad really, as it was always a great place to go shopping.

Like any town, it has it's good and bad areas. Thankfully I live in one of the nicer area's.

But as for cars? I've struggled to get good deals up here. The last good deal I got was from Teesside Audi on my S3. Did the usual DRD & Carwow prices, and said match that. They did. But now they're Lookers group, they'll just say no. Usual B***ocks of we don't made much on cars etc etc.

I think Huddersfield bought in a few X3 M40i's expecting to sell them easily when BMW had their Black Friday deal. 2.9% APR and 20% off. Obviously they didn't sell them, so discounted them even more to get rid of them. I'm just lucky I saw them.

Although Lookers have 5 branches across central Scotland (max 1 hour apart) the Stirling one has always done me good deals. Couldn’t quite match BMW this time around for me, I just didn’t want to go back to diesel in the SQ5 and preferred the X3. Seems to vary depending on what part of the country you’re in.

Completely agree re the high streets, internet shopping, eBay and Amazon have nailed the coffin door shut, shame really as I’m one of those who like to go see what I’m buying in the flesh.. as if it goes wrong I can take back and stick it on the counter instead of dealing with some herbert on the email or ‘live chat’.

As for the motor, you’ve certainly got a good deal.

Curiosity got the better of me today so I called into huddersfield.
I actually preferred the Black one upstairs (I'm a sucker for black) and the coloured interior was a nice touch.
A cracking deal at those prices though but not for me tbh, not really wanting to get into the pcp merry go round. I also prefer my SQ5 at this moment in time.
@wab172uk was yours the one ending UU with sold on the windscreen?

Must admit I'm very tempted by an M4 before I go electric. After having a running with one a few weeks back (wasnt really much quicker than me, but that sound!!!)

never heard of anyone saying an M4 sounded nice lol. I think they sound dreadful for what they are.
