I'm assuming the new roadtax changes will be bad news for 3.2 owners ?

Their Co2 rating is around 257 which,when it comes the company car tax,is definitely the highest bracket.

Roadtax will go up to £210.

It's possible some of us may score,but full details of the middle/lower brackets have still to be announced.

I'm just glad it wasn't the "4x4" tax the tabloid press would have us believe it was going to be,as it would have been grossly unfair to tax people purely on number of wheels driven.

My missus,paying more roadtax on her 1600cc 4x4 than the boy across the road in his M3 ?

The man Brown's an a*se - people keep asking "how long is Tony going to last?". Can't stand the man, but as long as possible would be my view - the Broon alternative doesn't even bear thinking about.

I wouldn't worry about a few quid on road tax - the huge amount of income and other tax we're (mostly) all paying now is far, far greater than that. Anyway, the depreciation on a car alone (never mind all the other shelling out) puts the cost of road tax in perspective. If he actually wanted to make it hurt, it would have to be something like £2.5k a year.

I think if you actually want something to worry about have a look at the percentage of the population (working) that is now employed by the gorvenment or supported by the government.

Fewer people in real jobs supporting more and more monkeys that are dependant on the state - which is great for tony and T/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gifER because they're pretty much votes that are in the bag!

The DSG 3.2 has a quoted CO2 of 240, the manual 257

Therfore as the cap is 250 if you own a DSG you wont pay the higher rate.

I fortunately will have to pay the higher rate

Mind you I've easily saved the £20 difference in the VED in the lack of fuel I have had to buy whilst my A3 is getting its new gearbox. Getting on 3 weeks now, the 2.0 A4 is much less thirsty ( also much less fun, much less scare the wife whilst driving, much less sonic boom.......)

Pity it isn't...
I would hammer all the miserable gits with their 2 tonne chelsea tractors...big time.

Unless you live in the middle of a field, or own a farm, you should pay way more for road tax, to compensate for the damage these vile vehicles cause...
It would also help solve the 'school run' problem where the majotity of 5'1" women are seen blocking roads in 4 litre+, 2 tonne+, 10 MPG 'jeep' type things, as they are plainly far too big for said women to drive, never mind park.

Tax the assholes off the road, I say...

Normal cars with 4 wheel drive transmissions would obviously be excluded as there is a reason for people desiring 4 wheel drive in a car...also the car doesn't weigh 2 tonnes+ and can astually be navigated through a town centre without a 'wide load' police escort.

Agee totally!!! Just as a recent example i was driving through Muswell Hill enroute to Hornsey and was stuck behind this Landrover Discovery. There is a bus infront of the Discovery which is driven by a woman and happens to be full of kids too. Anyway the bus stops at the bus stop....the roads are pretty narrow there but the drivers are pretty clued up so the traffic on the oncoming direction begin to pull closer to the kerb to allow us to pass this bus...... so i'm waiting and can clearly see theres loads of room...i beep my horn and nothing i beep my horn again and this stupid woman then after 1 minute decides to try and pull past the bus but its too late and the bus pulls out! I hold my head in my hands and she has seen this....so what does she do? She starts giving me the fingers and cursing in the mirror!!! Now for one if we were walking down the street she wouldn't dare do that to a stranger in London or anywhere for that matter.
These idiotic women have got some serious control issues driving these 4X4's I for one would like to see the back of them in London anyway. Another point on the tax issue which Glen raised is that i hope that farmers get tax relief for their 4X4's as they seem to be the ONLY legitamit people who actually need this type of vehicle for their line of work.

half the school run mums in my local village have these sodding things, "its safer to take the kids about in something like this, they might get run over"...... run over by who, another muppet in what might aswell be an HGV, being piloted out of control by some wench that needed a step ladder to climb into the thing in the first place.

i'd have tax on running the thing, tax on buying the thing, more expensive charges on everything for it.....

The 225g/kilometre is set at such a level as this captures the majority of cars registered after 2001 therefore generating more capital to pay for the scroungers they have given up on yielding any cash from.

I agree with god_thats_quick, It seems we have more and more government departmants being set up to police the system. Instead of wearing Nazi brownshirts they wear shiney ***** grey suits and specs.

I remember watching a TV program last year where they interviewed a few women parked up outside a school who were driving Shoguns, Land Rovers etc... all sparkly clean, never aeen any mud, anyway.

They asked one woman why she felt the need to use such a large vehicle to take her one child to school and she said "the increased height of the car means I can see over the top of other vehicles which makes me a safter driver".

The stupid bint obviously doesn't realise that she has better visibility but every poor /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif behind her can't see a thing!

I agree with Ben and Nervous about Brown, and everything else.

On 4X4 debate, I can see two sides (though one is not in clear sight!). My Mum does actually drive one and does take my Little sister to school in it. However, she does live in the middle of nowhere, it does often get driven around a field with a trailer attached.

There should be some kind of tax on them, especially those registered in somewhere like central LondoN! Maybe a massive increase in the congestion charge? Based on the footprint/weight of the car? This would only include ig 4X4's plus large Rollers or Mercs, of which I doubt the owners would be that bothered by. But obviously this only works in London. It is hard to work out the exact critiria elsewhere.

Problem with a "4x4" tax, is how would you regulate where the line is from a "normal" car to a Chelsea Tractor? Would an A6 Allroad be a CT?

I would think the idea of doing it on the car's unladen weight much better, and maybe having it combined somehow with the emissions of said vehicles - although the CO2 figure already has the weight taken into consideration in a roundabout way

Only thing with footprint is that if you take an A3 as an example, an S-Line would have a bigger footprint (if you are talking about contact area with the tarmac) than a standard model, yet have the same engine, emissions and physical size.

The car's interior volume, however would be good - especially if you include the volume of the engine bay.
