The New TT-S

There doesn't seem to be a heap of stuff on here about the new TT-S.

Have orders started arriving yet, and has anyone driven one?

I bought an S1 Sportback as I didn't want to wait, but I reckon in a year or two's time I would be tempted to upgrade to a new TT-S or TT-RS if my dealer offers me something tempting.

Does the TT-S feel rapid? I know there's a bit of a convergence around the 5 second 0-60 (with the S3, Golf R, Cayman S and so on), but also interested in the car's character with that performance.

Thanks!

yup I realised this a long time back - if you are after a small sporty Audi then it had to be an a3, then maybe an a1. A TT doesnt seem to register on here much at all hence I dont visit much anymore. Dont really get it tbh

Anyhow just watched my TTRS drive into the distance this morning and am awaiting delivery of a Sepang Blue TTS next week. In terms of pace out of the box the RS I expect still to be marginally quicker but all the rest in the mk3 will be better - including how the car handles.

I just think that the TT owners on here are the strong, silent type. Either that or really shy!

cheechy: Why the switch from RS to new S? Just being nosy...

It is a bit quieter then then TTOC forum but then that is purely TT based. The TT section here is at least a bit more active then the same in RS246.COM, but overall, TTOC Forum is prob place to get more answers, that's what I have normally found :).

Ref new TTS, I have driven one and have to say I was impressed with it, you can definitely see/feel improvements, except the steering feel...again, better but still much more to improve, why Audi can't just sort that I don't know! My B7 RS4 was amazing for feel, why not try to replicate that feel through all S and RS models, who knows. But yes nice improvements in the new car, what an interior and dash too, I'm sure Cheechy above will be well happy, not enough to for me too part with my RS yet, will eagerly await a future RS.

I think I will have to try them - I think my next car will be either a TT-S / TT-RS or a Cayman S... assuming an RS3 Saloon doesn't come along and look too beautiful...

Thing is the Cayman is widely acknowledged as being better to drive, but it's so sparsely kitted that if you put the stuff a TT has on it you're talking £58-60,000, rather than £45,000 for a kitted up TT-S. That leap may be worth it (if indeed it's possible for me at the time), but only if it really is MILES better than the TT-S/RS, which remains to be seen...

I can just never get over how cheeky Porsche are with their kit...

The Cayman is a lovely drive and yes it is a better drivers car overall, and if I was doing all the sort of mixed drives I do now plus adding in track use I would possibly consider one, however, apart from the new GT4 version which is very special, I don't like them as much as the TT both inside and out and engine too and with the way I use my car nothing else except an R8 will move me away from the TT at the moment.

I agree with reference the pricing! But then to be honest German option list prices are never that great lol

I guess the thing is, for 99% of when I'd actually use it, the TT would be the same or better (but then I could say the same about a Fiesta vs the S1 I currently have), but there is an allure with the Porsche.

I have actually never driven a TT, so will have to check it out. BMW actually seem quite good with options (if you buy an M3 or M4 you don't need to put much on it), and Audi are getting better (the packs in the S1 and the TT cover a lot of ground for me), but Porsche is an absolute joke: HUNDREDS of pounds for cruise control, folding mirrors, a REAR WIPER, leather and so on in a £60k car is a bit of a joke...

Yeah exactly and that is a weakness for them because like you say it pushes it right into 911 territory, but that's the exciting thing about the used market and what makes it fun hunting an epic car out .

Your right, for the 'most of the time' sort of drives, I'm happiest with a car like mine, especially with its pace and poise, B roads are amazing!

You have a nice car in the S1, did u look at the ST, also a cracking lil car

Well, over here in Canada I haven't even seen the new TT on any dealer lots, let alone the new TTS. The Canadian Audi web site says, "Pricing coming soon," for the new TT and they're still showing the previous generation in all their TTS images. Neither TT nor TTS are in the configurator at the moment. Not that I would be looking to get a new one, having purchased mine just over a year ago, but I'm curious to take a peek!

A bit like the new R8 - it's taken time for me to start liking the new shape TT, but like the new R8 it's now growing on me. Does it take a while for new models to appear over there.

I have had my new TT S Line Mk III for 2 weeks now and like it. Sure its no Cayman, I used to have a 981S and didn't get it as a replacement, traded in my A3 2.0T S (2010) for it. I think new TT is the best new Audi out there (bar the RS models) with the MQB chassis, Virtual dashboard and Sat/Nav, LED headlights, DAB and mine has B&O sound and Sat Nav. Certainly worth a test drive and for me the 230 PS version is plenty quick enough, the TTS is way too expensive at 40-45K. Might be tempted by the new TT RS coming soon?
Plenty of chat about it over on the TT Forum.

That's great, do I take it you've gone for the Quattro version? And what do you mean when you say 'over on the TT Forum'? I thought this was the TT forum?

No, mine is the FWD S Line 230 but due to the MQB chassis with traction control it drives great. I had to give the demo some hard right foot to get the traction light to flicker, it has got a lot of power and doesn't feel like 230, has no torque steer issues.

For my use the TTS with quatttro is unnecessary and adds extra weight and complexity, as its used locally mostly. In the TT-RS that's a must with 380 PS expected in the MKIII when it comes.

It's TTforum.co.uk has lots on the MKIII and all previous TT versions. For some reason this forum (audi-sport.net) seems mainly for the old models, as I used it a lot when I had an S3.

I have driven the S1 when it came out and found it disappointing, whilst it has a lot of power, more than the TT I have, I felt the steering was lifeless and the turn in soft. The interior is A1 S Line wirth poop up Sat Nav and not up to the 30k price level it comes to specced up.
I suggest you have a demo in the TT, I'd be surprised if you are not impressed, it is so modern in comparison with the virtual dash and drives really well.

RMJ891, good feedback from Null there about new TT, as stated above, it has definitely moved forward..

I mainly use the TTOC forums as they are busier with more active topics and info etc

:)

Mac: yes, it does take a while for new models to drive across the Atlantic, it seems! :friendly wink:

I don't recall a delay as long as this one in the past, though.

Tested the TTS and RS3 back to back today.

Only one winner - TTS.
I posted my thoughts in the RS3 section if anyone TT minded fancies a look.

Not quite enough for me to place an order due to practicality issues, but the RS when it comes might make me forget those.
Will stick with what I have for now, but absolutely brilliant car!

Craig,
Thats a very interesting read, I was waiting for the RS3 to come out but got to test drive a TT and compare with A3/S3. Although I never did drive the S3 I thought the TT was so much more modern, much nicer drive, seating position, gear change, interior layout not to mention the instrumentation and sound system and the Lambo - like styling at the front end.
I love my new TT and think you would do well to give the TTS a second look if you cant wait for the TT-RS. Otherwise it should be ideal with that 2.5 engine and about 380-400 PS! I still haven't had a demo in the TTS, my dealer hasn't registered their's yet.

It's struggle enough getting my daughter in and out of the back of my current car, the TT will be even tighter, hence it not being a viable consideration just now.
Maybe when she's into a booster seat, but that's a couple of years away (when the RS might be out).

Sorry just illustrate the point I forgot to come back and contribute a bit more! So had the tts for almost 3 weeks (came a bit later than I expected) and barring torque and engine tone I don't miss my ttrs tbh.

I like it. Not really pushed the car yet as I'm waiting for 1000 miles to clock up but handling superior. Tech is great and still trying to get my head round some of it.

I loved my old rs but would i have it in place of the mk3 tts? Simply put no.

Well that's a great result for Audi, if the newer model that's a 'step down' is better than the old top of the range, it looks like their chassis / dynamics overhaul has really been effective. Onward and upwards!

Good comments from Cheechy, hope you have a great ownership, I did enjoy my spin in one and you can see where improvements as standard have been made
