Our transfer box completely broke and was replaced with a used part but has just broken again. We had it checked at a different garage as I thought it was the haldex clutch that went the second time (& the original garage is too busy), but they found only 100-120ml of oil in the transfer box that was quite burnt, but only after 250-300 miles of use. The car is now heading back to the guy that supplied & fitted the transfer box but he said he definitely filled it with oil. Could it be that the gearbox oil wasn’t topped up? At the moment we don’t know where the oil has gone (no smell or smoke!), so I wonder if the oil has disappeared into the gearbox and we’ve run the transfer box dry
