I know this has been talked about so many times on here - and to be honest I hate the pesky things - but my RS3 has been into Audi for some warranty work and they have told me the tyres are worn. I've got Contisports 225/35zr19's all round - I thought they were 235's on the rears originally and 225's on the front - or was that the other way round?, maybe someone can correct me on this?

So do I stick with the Continentals or change to another tyre? I'm not a track day hooligan and to be honest I'm not a fast driver so any help will be appreciated.

Also, do I need to go 235 on rear, or even 235 all the way round - will they go straight on? or do I stick with the 225's all round.

You should NOT have 225/35s on the FRONT - NO WAY!

All data on your tyre data sticker...

A lot of guys have already changed to 235/35 Goodyear F1s all round with A1 feedback.

As you say, it "has been talked about so many times on here", so there's lots of information posted.

As John Say's 235 or 255 (with 8.5J Alloys) on the front, can't understand why someone would use 225's all round though !

Try Camskill, My Tyres or Black Circles for the best prices, as mentioned the Goodyear F1's have good feedback (had them on my previous S3) also do Michelin Super sports and if your not bothered / Happy with the conti's just put them on with the correct spec Front's.

Thanks for the tips. Not sure why it had 225's on the front. Had it 12 months now from Audi approved so may speak to Dealer as to why - not that it will do much as I've got to change them now anyway.

How many miles have you covered? are they worn evenly or have the got chunks of rubber out of them?

Just a thought: I do find the tyre pressures of 41/39 a tad too hard, with high-wear in the centre of the tyre, especially on the fronts.

This centre high-wear was noticeable from new with the standard 8J front rim and 235/35 tyres (running 41psi).

When I changed last year to the 8.5J FRONT rim with a 255/30 tyre (and put the original 8J FRONT and 235/35 on the rear) the centre high-wear pattern was quickly noticed, polishing off the moulding fraises within the first 100-miles or so.

Note: always a good test to follow the 'fraise' wear pattern on a new set of tyres as it can tell you lots about the cars set-up.

I digress: I now run 39/37 front/rear pressures and find that both the wear and ride are much improved - and I'm still on Continentals.

Even wear and there is a split on the inner wall on one of them.

Just ordered the Continentals again - but with 235's on the front

Its because of safety that the tyres should be the same front and back. It will help avoid uneven wear and will give you better adherence. To be fair to Audi, you need to tell Audi who! If it's the meeter and greeter then I wouldn't expect him to know, a salesman either; but if that's a technical person then you should name and shame him/her...

Why you'd want to purchase tyres from Audi, however, is your own decision...

this was Southampton Audi`s specialist tyre man who said I have to "have same front and rear as its the RS3"?
only called them to ask for quote and for tracking quote. £195 each all in couldn't tell me tracking price but needed car for 1 hour to do this plus cost of tracking. is it ok to fit say Goodyear's on the front ??

Yes, Goodyear F1's seem to be the preferred choice for most RS3 owners, however, I "may" be staying on Continentals when it comes around for mine to be changed but both the Goodyear F1 and Michelin Pilot Sport will be considered too.

However, your original tyres were ContiSportContact 5P on 19-inch x 8J rims:

At the FRONT: 235 x 35 x ZR 19 91Y Extra Load

At the REAR: 225 x 35 x ZR 19 88Y Extra Load

A note of caution: some cars (mine) are on an 8.5J FRONT wheel with a 255 x 30 x ZR 19 91Y Extra Load tyre; and maybe this is why I don't have the same issues others have with the Continentals.
