Can anyone recommend a product for protecting the underbody and components against rust? Not Waxoyl etc though, I would prefer something which is a little more tidy and dries if such exists?

EM121 Epoxy 2k paint from these guy's https://www.rust.co.uk/

Can be sprayed or applied with a brush and it's not cheap but the good stuff never is.

Nice one thanks, seems reasonable enough price wise.

EDIT: Been having a look around and does this stuff take like up to three months to fully cure at a reasonable temperature (20°C)?

Nope not at all, I did the underside of my A4 and it was dry within a day. And I sprayed chassis components that again were dry within 12 hours. I all depends on how thick you put it on and how it's been mixed! They say if you spray a panel with 2K paint it takes weeks to fully cure and should not be machine polished until about 3-4 weeks later. I've sprayed panels and machine polished them days later with no issues.

I can only tell you that I've used the product, it works very well with no extended drying times that I have seen. It's also kept the rust at bay. I've got a restoration here where you can see the results. https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/audi-a4-restoration-rebuild-thread.420769/ I would say that the silver epoxy did take longer to dry than the black for some unknow reason.

That's awesome thanks, I'll have a good read through that later today. I'll probably use the air spray gun at work and the post lift.

Are there any bits in particular which you would advise against coating such as the transmission sump, prop, exhaust etc?

There are lots of things like the heat shield & exhaust system I would not put it on, also brake lines etc. Also you would need to remove any waxoyl as VAG to use that on their cars. I had my car stripped down so I could access the entire underside of the chassis. I would also protect with schutz as well as the epoxy does dry hard so will chip off over time. the schutz will dry and leave a rubbery coating that stones should bounce off.
