urgent help needed pls - ECU light / limp home mode

guys,

car is an X reg A3 1.8T

we had an isssue with bad idling and stalling... now the ECU warning light is on and it has NO performance

im assuming its in Limp home mode

The car has an ECON button.. is there a diagnostic sequence I can enter to check the car?

ive tried the search function on here but it yeilds no results

any help woul dbe MOST appreciated!

quick update

went out and unplugged the sensor just before the air box.. im assuming the MAF sensor?

it ran fine.. albeit you could hear the turbo whistling?????? should this be able to be heard as the car is std

also the engine management light stayed on as well as the ESP light!???

how much are new MAF sensors from the dealer?

The cost from a dealer is around £75 + VAT; I'm not sure if this is still done as an exchange scheme; whereby you return your dead one in order to get that pricing on the replacement - that was how it worked when I last needed to swap one; but things may have changed since then.
