Using android auto maps, can you still listen to music?

I'm currently looking at either a3 saloon, a4 or a6 (not so keen on the size and lack of smart phone interface). Not new, second hand from 2016.

With the a4 I understand you can plug your android phone in to get android auto. This is my preferred maps nav option but if I do this, can I still listen to my music/radio as if the wasn't connected? I have Google maps muted.
