Can video in motion be done on a 2018 s3? Hearing so many different answers?

Send a message to @DJAlix and he will tell you if that can be done. :)

The reason you are hearing different answers is because people don't understand how VIM works within the new MIB systems.

Is VIM possible for mid 2017 Audi Vehicles onwards? Yes, but the method is currently different from previous units. I have a hardware solution which I can currently supply for all Audi vehicles and am working on a software solution.

Here is an example of the hardware solution using a 2018 Audi A5: #462

Add it to my list:icon thumright:
On another note vim is pretty useless without a video input like hdmi. How do we get video input?
I have an electronic box from a track car I had that displayed boost, oil, coolant temps etc so interested in how that could be wired in.
I know the s3 has a DVD player but I have no interest in watching tv while driving just show more useful information about the car.

  • MIB2 Low units would need an AMI retrofitting or would need a 3rd party interface installing to watch external video sources only.
  • MIB2 High units can view DVD or Media from SD Card. The above is also an option.

I’m puzzled - is it not illegal to play video viewable by the drive while in motion?
Indeed however the display of information and data is permitted. VIM is also needed for mobile device screen mirroring.

If you have a rooted android phone, there's a method that can mirror your screen, that's what I'm doing on mine.

Assuming you have android auto:

Make sure your android phone is rooted then download these two files and install on phone: https://github.com/slashmax/AAMirror/tree/master/apk
The read for more info: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...irror-screen-android-auto-disucssion-t3734180

You'll also need this to activate 3rd party apps on Android Auto: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904028904
The thread for this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...p-android-auto-3rd-party-app-enabler-t3853009

Here's a video for the instructions:

Let me know if you run into problems.
