Thoughts and feedback please.

So my car is due to arrive this month with delivery possibly late this month or early Feb. I have ordered the Daytona Grey with Black Pack, however I am having second thoughts on this colour selection.

I would normally go with black, and why I changed my mind on this order I don't know. I think my partner and I thought it was a classy looking colour, however I am unsure it will do the RS justice. Its a special car and I would like it to look a little bit "special on the road".

I really loved the matt colours, however the sales guy diverted me from these saying that chips etc were incredibly difficult to match. I sure he even said that a chip could not be covered and that generally the entire panel would need repainting. He never talked to me about the exclusive paints but then again I doubt I would have been able to wait that long. I ordered in October and because they had on order the car specs I wanted, I got a Jan / Feb delivery, otherwise it would have been an April delivery.
It was actually the sales guy who told me about vinyl wrapping. I had never seen or heard of the process before.

So Ladies and gentlemen.

What are your thoughts on Vinyl Wrap? Does it damage the paint? Protect the paint?
Can I ask that you share your knowledge on the process? What to look for in a "wrapper" Ha!
I have watched a lot of youtube videos on the process. I have been into one dealer.
I don't think this dealer was quite up to the standard that I saw on the youtube clip.

Looking for your collective knowledge to help me make a decision.

cheers !

I had the boot panel of my S1 wrapped black (to complete the yellow/black theme). And my sales guy has an SQ5 fully wrapped in matte grey.

Main thing as you seem to be doing is find a pro, many people are offering wrapping but only a few really know what they are doing.

If you are based in the South I can recommend 2 (the one I used and the one my sales guy/the dealership use).

When applied properly it won't hurt the paint at all, and of course offers chip protection with the bonus of being able to re-wrap a badly chipped panel for much less than a respray and no colour match issues.

To wrap a whole car is not cheap, ballpark £2k as a minimum for a pro to do it.

Personally I highly rate the process for doing a couple of panels to add contrast, but I'm not so sure about doing a whole car (primarily due to the cost!). If I was to do a whole car it would be in a matte or satin finish so as to make the effect that much more unusual and worth it over what paint can offer you (matte paint is VERY difficult to maintain whereas a wrap is easy).

I can dig some pics out of the 2 cars mentioned if you are interested, and let me know if you want the 2 referenced wrappers details.

LOL - just seen you are based in Oz, not UK! So no point in my suggested 2!

Maybe look for an Oz based detailing/paintshop forum for some local advice?

You can change the Spec up until a few weeks from the build date. Perhaps see if you can alter the as built paint colour without delays?

TX.

Thanks josedebardi,

Yes I am based in Oz. I did live in the UK for a while in Salisbury and Newmarket. Loved it!

Thank you for your feedback

Hi again terminator x,

There is something a little fishy with the delivery date on my car. When I purchased in October I was told it was due out of production shortly with delivery in Jan. The sales guy would not give me an date of early or late Jan, just Jan. I have pre-traded my car and the dealer has been kind enough to put me in demo cars to drive until my new car arrives. The only down side to this is that I need to swap them out approx every 1000km. I do a few Km's so this is approx every 1.5 weeks for me. The last time I went in he said that there had been a delay and we are looking late Jan or early Feb.

According to my research (my husband calls me Google Girl) it only takes some 42-45 ish days to ship a car out by boat. Would love for someone to clarify this for me if they can. So, he should have had an idea on when the car was in production - out of production and due to be shipped. This info was never passed on.

I love how you guys in the UK have the week of build etc and can track the car. I think this is amazing. Im sure if it is available there it would be here........ Meh.

So id say I've missed the chance to make any amendments. Pitty. This sales guy is the RS Specialist of the dealership too.

Hello Princess RS3

It takes approximately 10 weeks for a car to arrive in Australia at your dealer from build week. My RS3 was one of the first in Australia and I received it last week of September 2015, a week before the release date.

What dealer did you order through? Did they give you a build week on VIN?

Daytona is a great colour, had it on a previous Audi and loved it. If you are still keen on a wrap let me know if you are based in Sydney as there are some great companies I know of.

Any questions let me know, ozaudi forum in Australia is very helpful.

Hi xxsiiv,

Wow how exciting to have received your car before release!

I'm in Melbourne and I did not receive a build week on VIN. I need to swap my loan car out soon and I shall ask again for a firm date. Again.

Hopefully this close out from delivery they can be a bit more specific.

Princess RS3,

FYI there is a ship on it's way and will be docking in Melbourne on the 22nd of Jan. But once you get your VIN no. you can confirm if it's on that ship.

Confirmed !

It arrives in the 22nd :crown:
