I just got quoted £250 for my car to get serviced by my local independent Audi garage (Star Performance) which I thought was very expensive for an Independent. Just got off the phone with Perth Audi & they have quoted me a deal which is a full service for £309 which also includes the oil, air & fuel filter changed as well which I was planning on getting done soon anyway before I got it remapped. Any thoughts?

I think you need absolute clarity on what is included in each service. Even more useful would be the cost of the major items. E.g. the oil which you could easily provide yourself http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quantum-L...686220?hash=item33b1584d0c:g:NJAAAOSwA4dWFlAu

So for instance, £250 doesn't seem excessive to me if they are changing the spark plugs and doing those items you mentioned.
Spark plugs themselves are at least £40 from the parts request form here plus the other parts and say 1.5 hours labour. What were you expecting, given you think that is very expensive?

Be clear on whether the Audi quote includes spark plugs. Even if it does then its on the high side in my opinion. But that's dealers, and you may be happier paying the premium. Don't assume the full price service from audi will include the cost of spark plugs. I hope it would but I was told in the past from a dealer when given a full service price that the price did not include plugs being changed as they only were to change them if needed/necessary - which is the lingo being used here for instance.

I had my car serviced last week at my preferred Audi specialist in East Yorkshire. They were happy for me to provide my own oil (the same they would use) and spark plugs (bought from the parts request process here). Which helped me save a few quid with minimal effort. Overall the cost of my full service ended up around £210 (I saved £25 bringing the oil and another £20 bringing the spark plugs).

Even cheaper if you do it yourself. Full service should include spark plugs, air filter, pollen filter, oil/filter, window wash fluid and checking all the safety items are working correctly. £200 - £250 seems fair to me for a decent garage to do that lot.

Audi main dealers will price match any quote from a garage within 15 miles using genuine audi parts. I emailed a local VW/Audi specialist garage and was quoted £200 +VAT for a 'major service' and sure enough Audi matched it.

I agree that it's much more cost effective to do it yourself and you know you'll do a proper job, I alternate each year so I don't miss out on any TSB's and I get that all convincing Audi stamp, when I service it myself I just write 'see receipts' in the book.

Thanks guys, I've just emailed them back asking if the service includes spark plugs, air filter, oil filter & fuel filter.

He said it includes all the filters, air, pollen, fuel, oil & brake fluid service no spark plugs to change.

I've just booked it in for this Tuesday, hopefully get remap done in next few weeks but going to get carbon clean done first.

Does the Audi price match only count on cars a certain age?

He said it includes all the filters, air, pollen, fuel, oil & brake fluid service no spark plugs to change.

Does that mean they don't change the spark plugs in their full service?

Glow plugs don't generally get changed in a service.

My local garage want £311 for a full service

I'm looking at getting a full service round about now. Any descent Audi Specialists in London? I called Russell Automotive Centre (RAC) They charge £330 for a service. More expensive than going to Audi.

If you are in the eastern part of london, AMD technik Are at Lakeside and specialise in the Vag brands and have all the diagnostics. Much recommended on here and who i go to if i can't fix fix my audi myself.

Booked my S3 in for a service at VAG Teknik Eccles for a full long life service for £190 price includes oil and filter spark plugs fuel filter, air filter and breather cleaned and pollen filter along with service reminder reset and various other checks.Price includes VAT also.

Maybe I don't actually need a service yet. I think the place that did the last oil change didn't reset the service indicator. As it say's on the dashboard that it needs a service. But looking at the service book it say's that it had an oil service August last year about 4000 miles ago at a random garage and an major service at Audi was carried out the year before at 11,763 miles ago.

Am I right in thinking I don't need a a service yet? Next month will be a year but the car has only done 4000 miles since the last oil service/change?

I actually made a last minute appointment while making enquires this afternoon not realising when the last service was, as the guy said there was a space available for tomorrow. I might have to cancel in the morning, it was a place called Motor Continental. I think it was going to be £222 for a full service.

If my memory serves me correctly, it's 10,000 miles, or every 12 months, whatever comes first, if your not on the variable service plan.

Best to do a yearly service however many miles you do. If the car is on Variable Service at present then convert to Yearly servicing as you are low mileage user. The Variable Service regime is intended for high mileage business users.

A service 12 months ago at a random garage. Not a word of that makes me think you don't need a service! Get it done buddy, at a place you trust that gives you value and quality.

Car dealer servicing is the biggest rip off ever, the work is usually carried out by new guys or learners as the experienced guys see it as donkey work. With a little research you can do it yourself easily and then be able to do it again and again, dealers thrive off people who are clueless about the mechanics of their vehicle. Do it yourself there's more than enough info on here from what I've seen

I got charged around 180 that was with genuine audi parts and brake fluid change and a long life service.

bet if you mark the original parts you will find most audi garages dont even change filters etc . just a quick oil change and a reset of the service indicators.

I had full Audi history on my S3 until Feb this year then on price decided to use independent (Central Audi Birmingham) they were marginally cheaper. Told me car was slightly pulling to left on braking which they believed to be a worn tyre, Which turned out to be a shagged brake disc. Also they did a brake fluid change which i had to return to them as the warning light came on 2 days after they had done it. On balance wish i had kept the franchise history going tbh. Like everything best to try and haggle and get the dealer to price match.
