Whine/moan noise when stopping/stopped

Hi Guys

I have an issue with the S3, when slowing down, stopping i am getting a fairly loud whine/moan from the drivers side in the engine bay ,AKS had the car lately and were going to check the alternator clutch pulley , Alex has just told me all looked ok, the noise had gone but its back and even louder this afternoon , my battery is only 30% and i am going to change it , I have read that a weak battery can put extra load on the alternator .

Anyone experienced this and found a cure ?

No it doesn't do it at all at speed ,just when i am coming to a stop.

Does it happen when your wife isnt in the car?

Thats usually where the whines and moans come from in my car!

If you turn off the engine and coast to a stop does it do it?
Also does the type of road surface make a difference?
Have you had the geometry realigned recently?
