My 2 year old 2.0 tdi is due its second inspection service at 38000 miles. I've been quoted £405 by the local Audi dealer and £215 from a local specialist. As the specialist uses genuine Audi parts it maintains the warranty and they say they can also update the digital service record with Audi. So I'm asking myself why would I use the dealer when they are nearly £200 more expensive.

As long as the Indy is using genuine parts and are willing to provide you with a quote in writing, Audi should price match.

It's all about what if any value you attach to the service history showing the car having been serviced by Audi main dealers, and what if any difference that might make to:
  1. The resale value of the car, and
  2. If Audi UK are likely look more more favourably on you if you try make a 'borderline' warranty claim that they may not otherwise agree to honour...
I will most likely stay with Audi for the warranty period (trying to get the price match above) and maybe look elsewhere after...

Seems not everyone is successful with this though...

The reply I received from Audi UK when I asked about servicing at an independent garage.

I think they have to say that, with the EU regs as they are. It's what they may choose to honour outside of the strict terms of their warranty that's in question, in my opinion...

As far as I know it is price match regardless of age. Have seen other forums members getting it on their Year 2 service (for MY15). And I am talking about ones with S4s rather than A4 as Audi offer free device option. They don't on S and RS.

only ever use quality indy garages, half the time they have R8s, RS7s, bentleys GTs, GTS AMG so i think if the owners of that sort of cars are there then my little S3 will do just fine. tbh i never had issues with indy but ive had loads with the dealers, personally i dont think they care one bit its just numbers to them. I took my R32 to the same palce for 4 years and i'll do the same to my S3 while i have her. If you find a good one then i cant see why not.

There is no doubt we are ripped off by service cost . One other advantage though is any updates / modifications that audi do not want to admit to , or just don't bother to tell us about might be done at the service . This avoids recalls .

Service price match guarantee is only for 3years plus. However individual dealers can offer deals any time they want. But you can't insist until the car is 3 years old.
