Hello,

So I've been reading in the "RS3.....worth the premium over the s3?" thread and people are starting to talk about there cars from the 80's and 90's and i wanted to see what you have had (pictures would be great). I guess these cars don't have to be from the 80's and 90's if they are different.

It does not matter if you never owned the car a family members car would be great.

Since i was born in 89 i didn't own a car back then but i do own a sapphire cossie (1992) and a XR4i (1981) now.

Both pictures are not very good nor how the car sits today as they are being restored so they look sorry for themselves in the shed.

Also any stories would be great!

So please do share with us!

One of my mates Bought an absolutely Mint Condition low mileage Sierra XR4i in the late 1990's & it was amazing.............loved the Engine noise on it!!:)

Wow 34 years owning a car! Thats a long time!

The XR4i does have a nice 2.8 v6, with 150bhp (mines probably got 50 now lol) and rear wheel drive so very fun car to own back in the 80's. Still are great car for today!

I have owned my Volkswagen Corrado G60 for the last 22 years. It has changed somewhat since my purchase back in 1993. It has evolved now into a carbon fibre panelled, 4WD, 2.0 16V Turbo with over 530BHP and hardly a single unchanged component in its make up. I just love this car and moreover the pleasure in each stage of its evolution.

My parents had a few cars over the time I was growing up but the two I remember were

Mini Cooper - I remember (very vaguely) trying to squeeze into the back of this when I was a wee lad.

Ford Escort XR3i - My dad's pride and joy this was. It was black and my dad thought it would be good to do lime green pin stripes down the side along with replacing all of the model badges with lime green vinyl. This was written off with me sat in the passenger seat as we get t-boned by a k**b coming our of a junction and not looking where he was going.

I (unfortunately) don't have any photos of my past cars due to my moving round the world so many times.... but here is the list with family members cars in between

1978 V reg Lada 1200 in rust red with alloys.... (don't ask, it was a company car and my Grandfather had a strange car buying policy.... oh but he did have a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow)
1979 S reg Toyota Carina in bright Yellow 1.6 i think.
19** Y reg Escort Estate 1.6 (this was the closest I could get to an XR3 at the time) boy was this a fast car for its time.
198* B reg Escort XR3i....... I bought this having always wanted a Golf GTi, XR3i or RS Turbo.... My Dad talked me into the XR3 and he got a GTi for my Mum.... I spent every weekend asking her if I could borrow her car.
198* D 500 *** Pug 205 1.6 CTi.......
198* E 800 *** Pug 205 1.9 GTi....... Rocket!

Went to live in Florida in the early 90's and got myself a VW Corrado G60 which I shipped back to the UK in 1996 and kept it for a few years.

That's it.....

I had one of these identical!
Then went on to the series 1 rs turbo and then a series 2 rs turbo I'll get some pics up later after work!

they are only on there for know we are trying to find the original steel wheels
That's good. Original is best I reckon!

Rostyles or Ford later spec were options I think. Standard on GT GXL E versions. Is yours an L or XL. Think I have some 70s Ford stuff somewhere.

hi mate ours is a decor model has no radio and no creature comforts. and is proving really hard to find the correct wheels for her. we can find plenty of the rostyles but they where not fitted to this car when it left the factory.

My old man always had bangers for work, normally cortina or granada estates. He had an XJ6 for weekends, was stunning.

He also had this, gutting he turned down a mint e-Type just before the prices rocketed as my old lady refused to let him buy it as he had this sat in the garage already!!

sold a few years back for peanuts compared to what the e-type would have been worth.

I love my old fords, mainly the MK3 Escort, had a few XR3is as a teenager but alos had these two in my twenties...

sold and being restored up north somewhere

Then got this one

wish I had kept this one, would be worth double what I sold it for a few years ago and garage has sat empty ever since!
