Driving enjoyment comes down to a few things. I think the major thing missing from the RS3 is a manual gearbox. I bought an S3 Saloon (manual) in April 2015 instead of the RS3 for 2 reasons. 1) Prefered the look of the Saloon, over a Sportback, and 2) it was available with a manual gearbox.
I'm torn if to order an RS3 Saloon. Yes the added power and noise would be most welcome, but can I really live with a gearbox shuffling the gogs for me? For me, a manujal gearbox is the most important element of driver involvement. OK, the box in the S3 isn't exactly great, but at least it is a manual. Who cars if a DSG equipped car is 0.2 seconds quicker to 60?
It's funny how Porsche jumped on the Auto only for the GT3. Loads of protests etc from existing customers. Yes they still sold as many GT3's as they could build. But when the GT4 came out, they made a point in saying, it was for the people who prefer interaction rather than chasing numbers. Any funnily enough the Gen.2 GT3 is rumoured to be available with a manual box too.
So come on Audi. Give us a manual gearbox. We're not all that lazy that we can't be ***** to change gear ourselves. After all, on a back road, that's what makes driving fun. If I want to steer only, I'll go play Forza motorsport on a X-Box one.
