£171 for first oil change

Wow I paid £300 for oil change and oil filter and "inspection"!!! That was at 16k miles though.

£100 was on oil but I read many owners have been providing the oil

My 1st oil change was £202 with the main Audi dealership, so that is a good price.

However, my second service will be from an independent Audi specialist as it's the oil and inspection service, Audi want between £365 - £439 (3 quotes)!!! The independent + logging the work done on the Audi system is £220, a saving of at least £145

After the pump expense the 1st time, you are then saving £100 on each oil/filter change compared to their price....and their price for the OP is a good one as well!

Exactly !

It's very straight forward 1/2 hour max.

£171 is not a good price and you were ripped off!

Oil, filter and washer if required will cost about £75 max.

So they are charging about £100 for about 20 minutes labour.

In all fairness from a main dealer point of view that is a good price, it'll always be cheaper if you do it yourself or go to an independent (although I'm paying £150 for the R32 to be done at an indy)

Just being a main dealer should not give them free reign to rip people off.

An oil change is an oil change.

It's a good price from a main dealer! But yes I agree that they do rip you off and they shouldn't be allowed.

More of us need to stick two fingers up at main dealers and go for an indy, maybe then they would reconsider their pricing ;) My eyes have been opened over the past week or two...indy for me from now on :)

For an Audi dealership it's stunning. AND you keep your warranty unlike if you did it yourself. Which is worth the difference.

Why the surprise at the cost, every couple of months this "OMG first oil change Audi price rip off" thread comes up, no one do any research before they buy a car?

Premium car, premium prices!!!

Anyone called out a plumber or other skilled tradesman recently, free quote but hourly rate has to cover all the free quotes and other overheads, no different in a car dealership your 20 - 30 min oil change probably amounts to a total of 3 man hours of labour before you add in all the other overheads and depreciation of assets.

Independent garages are cheaper but don't have the overhead of subsidising sales who are giving us all 10-12% discounts. Would take £4K of discount and accept an extra £150 on the 2-3 services I have any day,. That said my first oil change and first service are FOC on the current car :)

I don't mind paying the price it's the inconsistency that bugs me both in price and when it's needed.

My oil was changed by Audi on its first service at 12k but then at 26k they say it's not needed and we'll do it next time at closer to 40k. Hence why I done oil changes myself at 19k and 26k. Maybe there is some truth in having 'running in' oil ?

I totally agree about the inconsistency with Audi pricing, but I also think £171 for the oil change is a great price. @Daveotto has it summed up - premium car = premium prices.

I wouldn't say that! I had a Mokka diesel a few years back, the 1st service/oil change on that was £150 and that was with my works discount! Without it they quoted just over £200....so in all fairness the price the OP has been given is very good indeed :) I didn't keep the Mokka for the 2nd service, so not sure what that would have been. I also know what you're saying with the research, but it's hard on a new car as prices vary, unlike a used one which is easy to find, I can't understand why they can't do the same on a new one!:

Yep, perfect example: Crewe £401, Liverpool £439, Cheshire Oaks £365 all for the same second service.

Mate sent me this and now is the perfect time to use it :D

Please tell us how you got such a decent price?

It depends how you work out the cost of the service doesn't it?. If you boil it down to the trade cost of an oil & filter & doing it yourself... yes very.

Or if you factor in the cost of building & running the sort of glass palace customers expect 'a premium experience' from these days including the labour of five or six staff who you will have come into contact with (call centre, receptionist, service advisor, technician, valet, partsman etc etc...), the 'free wifi', 'free coffee & biscuits', ongoing technician training, parts & labour warranty, 'free loan car' it starts to look like much better value for money doesn't it!?.

I think it is Audi who expect the glass palace, not the customers.

I know of a dealer who lost their Hyundai franchise because they could not afford to spend millions on a new glass palace.

My first service was £200.75
Second service £320.14 + £34.47 pollen filter + £79 air conditioning

£179 is a great deal from a dealer

No need to get aircon done at 2 years if it has been used regularly and is performing well.

That falls about right for what the main dealer quoted me @ £365 (without air con).

But I'm going with 'Unit20' for the 2nd year service, inspection, pollen filter and online logging of what they have done for £220

https://www.facebook.com/unit20/ They get good reviews, one that sticks out:

Can independents update your Audi service record on line with Audi themselves?

Surprising, but great if they can.

I really wish they just had a service booklet that you get stamped. MINI/BTW have also stopped using them.

Yes, I just booked mine in for next month with Unit20, went down to see them and you can tell that they know their stuff! Whilst there I mentioned the online thing, he said that they do that and that they have also paid to have official Audi service books as well, so not only will it be logged online, I'll also have a book with a stamp in to show people that the service has been done.

That is fantastic!

I wonder if any of the ones near me can do this?

I will probably only need one service in the time I have my car. It's on a 3 year pc and variable servicing. Not happy being ripped off so happy to use an independent.

Car is serviced, price is correct and they gave me a car wash kit, that will never be used

Audi tried charging me £360 the other day just for an oil change, oil filter and 'inspection'.

I told them I could get a full service with Air Filter, Plugs etc for £220 with Audi Approved Parts. Needless to say after some exchanged words, it dropped to £250!

Don't settle for these mental prices. Inspection takes no longer than 20 minutes, they are scammers.

The only people that will suffer is Audi, as your warranty won't be voided as long as you use Audi Approved Parts, so just take it elsewhere.

Yep , just tried to book mine and been told between £300 and £335 ! One said " well this is a performance car you know " Err yes I bought it so I know what it is !

I do not mind paying for quality , but for a simple oil change and quick check over, this is clearly over priced. One assumes this is also the plan with the "on line" service book. I know I can go to an approved non dealer , but also know that
1/ Going to Audi does mean any "secret" updates/Mods will be done without them telling me
2/ Can assist come trade in time ( I paid cash for the car).

I reckon a fair main dealer price would be around £200. Maybe it is because I am in Essex !

So maybe I am paying for a £100 Valet/cup of coffee . I will not want them touching my paint considering how much I have paid for detailing...
Guess I will have to cough up.

Think my first service was around £340 and included an oil change and pollen filter, second service was inspection only at £128 so £234 average !

This is supposed to be oil change inspection only with main service in 200 days time

Just checked if it is 3 years old the oil change interim is £179 . That is more like it....

Have you seen what they check on the inspection?

'Sound the horn'
'Check glovebox opens'

Absolute nonsense.

How many of you had your brake fluid changed on 2nd service?

Audi have been telling me it's not due until 3 years after the cars built. Seems odd.

I believe that to be correct but then strangely becomes every two years thereafter ??

OK finally got a sensible person at a different dealership . He explain it in better detail. He explained that as I am on flexible service the car is dcciding when it needs servicing.( that is what I thought)
Sometimes , depending on the driving both the oil service and main service coincide as one. On the higher performance cars like the S3 or if the car does lots of short journeys the car may decide it cannot wait for the full service and wants the oil changed earlier. So when it comes back for the "main" service that service is cheaper. He qouted 270 for the oil service and 198 for a main service when there has been an oil change . If the oil was changed at the main service it would be around 460.
That seems to make sense to me and am happy to change the oil early ( will be around 9500 miles).

He also expalined that a oil service on a flexible plan is different to a fixed plan on older cars. OK maybe a fair bit of blarney , but there did seem some logic . I know I could go to an indy garage , and some seem to say they can update the on line service manual, but it being the first time back since I picked it up 15 months ago am happy in case they have factory notices to make any software updates or glitch resolutions.
Told them to not touch the paint and I will wait in the dealership whilst it is being done to make sure ....
