Would really like to keep my S5 with an Audi product / install, but not if it's sub-par.

Anyone got it? Care to provide some feedback, please?

Many thanks. Jon.

Ive had the UTR installed in my S3 by my dealer at the beginning of the week.

Happy with the quality of the imagesand the installation, the interface with the smartphone is OK but needs improving - tech is not Audis' strong point in my experience. I'm assured that Audi are looking at improvements so hoping for a better experience in the near future.

Chose the Audi cam as I was keen to have in OEM model.

Hope this helps

Couple of dealers consistently saying they have instructions/clearance to fit to B9 A5s, but not the S5s yet. Silly!

Got it fitted with new car last week.

Quality is OK and no issues with it.
App still needs some development, but otherwise OK.
No windows software available yet.
I did some experimentation and found Thinkware software works fine.
Lets you switch between front and rear footage for quick viewing.
For editing Shotcut allows switching between channels for front and rear camera footage as both are encoded onto a single avi file.

Get the Thinkware F800 Pro instead.

Easy to fit and Easy to use.

Last year I considered Audi's UTR for a while when it was first announced. But instead went for a Thinkware F770 (the F800 wasn't out then). Great system. I bought it through the RAC and was delivered and fitted by Chameleon Codewing. Took about 30 minutes to fit and it's a very clean installation front and back. To date I've had no real issues. I did have to have my screen out for a Hud rattle fix and the F770's Lane Dearture Warning System got a bit weird for a while after it was refitted, but recalibrated itself quite quickly. I think with install mine cost £330. The app and PC software are a doddle to use too. The Audi UTR prices do seem very high for what is not really Audi kit.

Have the 770 on the missus GTD for over a year now with no issues..........

It's what prompted me to get the F800Pro for the 3.........

Cellink also do a new battery unit now to power it for even longer in parking mode.....

How is the F800 pro, does it do all that cloud stuff properly?

Good and no issues.

Not touched the cloud features yet as have had other things that have taken priority, but will report back once I’ve had chance to see what’s what.

Stand by parking mode is better than the F770 because it has better battery management.

I’m also informed the F800Pro doesn’t need the SD card format every so often that the F770 does (it’s no bad thing though to format a SD card every so often).

Have ordered a Cellink NEO6 battery pack to compliment the dash cam.

Just had my Audi UTR fitted today to my A6 (C7) by my local Audi dealer.
Had the front and rear fitted.
As others have said the quality is ok and the app could be slicker.
But what i like most is that it does not cause any radio (DAB) interference.
Which i always got when using Blackvue.

Had my A7 fitted with Audi UTR front and rear.
On the positives, as already mentioned, no DAB interference, much slicker looking install than my DIY effort with Thinkware F770, it quickly connects to my iPhone without fuss and I can view realtime the front and rear. Settings appear much simpler. Much easier to slide and pull out to review video or remove the camera altogether. It does offer a radar mode which will pick up objects and record, although yet to review the video for this feature.
The negatives, the app is a little glitchy side, the quality of the video is ok but not as good, seems to only record 1 min intervals. Very little options in deciding video quality, from the UTR App manual it suggests front is 1080p and rear is 720p, so lower resolution for rear, compared to F770. As someone already mentioned, no Windows software to play with the video but will try the Thinkware and see if that works.
I have taken the SD card out and replaced with a bigger 128GB card. I have checked to see video, but for the life of me, can only see video from front camera? I suspect that as someone already suggested it is encoded into a single AVI file.
Anyone know how to access the rear camera footage from the AVI file (other than the UTR App)?
TIA

I have tried to replace the 8g card with a32g card
But no matter what I do it won’t see my card
Can you tell me what you did to get the UTR to recognise your larger card

Hi, I have to admit I was just lucky. When I was using the Thinkware F770 in my old car, that dashcam was very fussy about which SD Cards to use. I think it is because these cards are recording at high resolution and both front and rear. This meant buying 128GB Sandisk Extreme, which worked flawlessly. I also tried Samsung 120 EVO Plus, which works without issues in the Audi UTR. I made sure to format them in the Audi UTR before starting to use the video.
So it could be that the UTR is fussy (which it might be) this means getting a new SD Card or simply trying to Format it using the UTR App from your smart phone.
Both cards are rated as XC 1 and U3 - for recording upto 4K video, but remember we have two cameras recording in HD.
I just moved the card from my F770 over and formated it and it seems to be recording fine.

I was with the impression the maximum storage capacity for the F770 was 64gb. Also experienced issues with different SD cards compatible with F770 but the installer suggested to only use Thinkware branded SD cards. Got the F800 pro now and quality is pretty good as well as option of cloud storage. What is the longest you can record on parking mode?

It is not long, the battery level drops before I run out of space. I wanted to get the F800 pro, hoping it would auto-magically upload dashcam footage...

I park walking distance from my workplace so wanted something that could take footage on parking mode and so far I can do around 8hours and a bit more with the F800 and 128gb SD card. The SD card is also from Thinkware. Still trying to understand how to set up cloud storage. Thinkware support is not very helpful.

wow, that is very impressive, I am sure my F770 did not do anything more than about 10mins. Do you have an additional battery pack for it?

No, the installer (Bromley Car Audio) told me is not needed. My F770 is also on parking mode for more than 10 minutes if I put parking mode as a priority on the options on the thinkware app. As far as I know it is always on and has a safety feature in case it is draining the car battery.

I can get around 6 hours on my F770 on parking mode. That's with it set to 12.2V. I could go lower I suppose, but don't want to risk the car.

@koolkul - surprised you swapped out an F770 for an Audi UTR. My F770 is fantastic and I haven't heard great thing about the UTR. I had mine installed by Chameleon Codewing.

Hi @pxr5 - actually I fitted the f770 to my old A7, but recently got a new A7 and really could not be bothered with working all the fuses out in the new model to fit it in again. So got the dealer to discount it and have them spend a day working out how to fit it.
I think the main thing is that I can easily slide it in and out and looks neater than my effort - don't I did a good job of hiding all the wires but there was a couple of wires a bit exposed coming from the headlining, which Audi hide with their custom bracket.
I never tried reducing the battery voltage level when it was fitted to my old car.
I have discovered a cfg file for the UTR with a few settings which I might play around with. Definitely not as configurable as the f770 for sure, but I can hear DAB perfectly and i connect straight away to the UTR which was a bit of a struggle on the f770.
Thanks for the tip about the voltage!

What Thinkware software can we use with a UTR ?

Thanks

Which dealership fitted your front and rear camera UTR @koolkul ?
I am trying to get quotes for a 2015MY A7 BiTdi I have just picked up, but the two dealerships I have tried both think only the front camera can be fitted to my car.
Many Thanks,

Hi @delirious, I had mine fitted before pick up at Slough Audi. Bit strange them saying they can only fit front. Although my dealership did suggest it took most of the day as the Audi techs had never fitted one to an A7 before. Hope that helps.

I started to follow the official Audi install instructions on my A3, they expected me to remove 3/4 of the trim of the car !

One day is good for UTR install. Mine has been with Audi Sydenham since Friday. Excuses about no technicians/ extra parts needed.

Many Thanks for your comments all.
Well, Slough Audi confirmed that front and rear UTR cameras could be fitted, but I have since been comparing spec's between the Aud UTR and the Thinkware F800 Pro.
So I'm now mulling over the two. The Thinkware with battery backup will keep the parking mode running longer (for example when I leave the car in an airport car park for 7 to 14 days), but my preferred listening mode is DAB. I notice DAB interference mentioned in some posts above. @koolkul I guess you experienced DAB interference with the F770? @pxr5 do you have any DAB interference in your A7/F770 setup? (I'm assuming your A7 has DAB....)
Anyone have the F800 Pro and DAB in their Audi?
Cheers.

Hi yes I did get a bit of interference but not too much. I think it probably makes a difference as to how the wiring is rooted around the car. I installed it myself over a couple of hours with no previous experience. There is probably some better root.

Had the UTR retro-fitted to my 16 Q7 hy the dealership. Well fitted - nice job.
But the kit is hopeless and I am pressing for a take-out & refund.
My experience of Audi has been laughable and they would do well to get away from being a sales organisation which believes its own hype and only appears to talk to itself and try getting things right.

The camera works through an app.
Take a look on the iTunes appstore at the reviews. Out of the 46 currently on there 45 are one star, very unhappy owners.

Here's why:

1. My dashcams in the past have a feature where you can manually capture AND THEREFORE PROTECT footage. You tap a button.
The UTR has no feature. It just records what it wants according to the settings, with no over-ride.

2. There is a feature "Find my car". Very useful. BUT it only works if the app is connected by wifi to the camera when the car is switched off. No problem you might think - keep the app open so it connects when you get in the car. But is does not automatically connect. a) if it does connect you then need to "confirm" it. (very tedious) or b) it does not connect and you have to "proceed without wifi).

But then - assuming you get that far - it's connected - during the drive it disconnects itself so that you have no car location saved anyway.

3. The video clips cannot be removed from the app. You can download them off the camera into the app - but then they are trapped in it. If you want to use the video you need to take the SD card out of the camera and read it in a laptop. What !! ?

4. The video clips do not flow seamlessly. They are discrete 1 minute clips which you need to play one after the other if you want to show a period > 1 minute. Previous cams I have had simply play a sequence seamlessly.

5. My last dashcam ( a MiVue, plotted a route on a map. You could replay the journey on a map. the UTS does not.
But the GPS function does not work either!!
below the video clip in the app there is a graph which should show data about the car's movement. <y graphs are always blank.
And the speed & voltage data is always blank.

6. The quality of the video is very poor. My 2 weeks of journeys so far have been in October, during the day. You are lucky if you can read a numner plate on a video beyond 2 cars length.

I am annoyed with myself that I have allowed Audi to con me again. First a disgraceful car and now - after lots of assurances following my first experience, they fail abysmally again.

Did Audi actually test this crap before releasing it or is it just their ever-apparent contempt for quality.

I agree whole heartedly all the Audi Apps are rubbish MyAudi hasn’t had all it’s features working at the same time as long as I’ve had the car and the UTR app on the surface looks slick until you try and do anything with it . I have never seen the GPS data or xyz data ever work . I can now only describe it as abit naff ....

I also assumed there was desktop software like all the others cameras .....

Yes having used it for 3 months, you have hit every point I had which I raised with my dealership and also asking for a refund - I even asked them who the manufacturer but Audi UK do not want us to know. I am sure there are some config options if only they would allow us to contact the manufacturer.
I also noticed that it does not record much in the dark, as there does not appear to be an infrared LED.

Does yours also tell you about parking incidents constantly when it is just you getting back to the car !

Yes, but I never bother looking at them because it is too much hassle. One would normally be interested in "exceptions" which these are clearly not.
They are most likely "radar"events and if I was monded to fine tune it I would either turn off the radar or make it much less sensitive.

Shame there is nothing more than a minimal manual to assist

I have contacted Audi through the email in the app and raised these issues I guess I will just get a generic response of we are aware of the issues and working on it .......

Optimist.
We are irrelevant to them.
Their system will simply churn out a response saying how they value your recent contact and please complete the following feedback form, which will waste your time and achieve nothing.
Audi operates like a religion - you either believe or you are wrong.

I honestly wish I had done more research into the brand before buying my car ! Its a shame really as I really like the car ....

Hmmm...as the OP, I'm now rather glad I self-installed a BlackVue DR750 now, mostly because the dealers were continuing to say they could fit S4s, but S5s - it's a shame that so many have a bad experience with the UTR - it seems like all the hard work has been done, but the last 10% makes the difference between shoddy and useable.

Agreed. I had my F770 fitted just around the time the UTR came out. So I was doing research on different systems and there wasn't much on the UTR. Luckily I followed a thread on VWAF on guys who had fitted the Thinkware to Q7s. Not heard much good on this Audi UTR system. In fact the Audi Tech related things aren't great in general. Yeah Audi Connect, I'm talking about you.
