What Detailing / Car Care Products Have You Bought / Ordered Today?

So after my haul from Waxstock and pondering over the weekend (and bad influence from @X3man and @jassyo06 ) I'm currently looking in to buying a Das 6 pro plus, and tackling the S5 myself. Not sure if Ibis White will benefit from the treatment or not. Only bit I'm not sure on before ordering, is a 5" plate on the Das 6, surely is too big for areas such as the side skirts on the S5 so not sure how to tackle this.

LOL - Once you start using, and see the results, you will be very very happy! I also have a mini da, but tbh, for my initial correction and coating of X3, the "normal" da did the job, even on the smaller bits. Gets a bit tricky round mirrors, but some polishers offer extensions etc. Worth a chat to someone like Imran from i2d

I do plan on following your post for some tips thats for sure! Weather at the moment is a tad warm so will be later in the year. Only issue areas I've noted as you say are round the mirrors, side skirts and round the front headlights. Also taping up plastics and windows, what tape did you use? Is it just masking tape? Sorry so many questions, but just concerned as come correction time the chrome around my windows will be wrapped and don't want to tape them and then remove the tape and end up pulling off the vinyl lol.

Will drop Imran an email to see what he recommends, don't really want to buy two machines, want to try and get away with the Das 6 Pro.

Agree, it is a "tad" warm at the mo :whistle2:
My x3 has some hectic side skirts, still managed ok with normal size DA.
Only thing I used tape for was to divide up doors and bonnet tbh

Thanks, appreciate the help as always, will ask the guy wrapping my car if it'll be alright to tape them (being vinyl and black) plus the plastic on the sideskirts.

You can buy a smaller backing plate too mate. Not sure on cost but they’re not expensive if I remember right. The DA polishers do prefer being flat and can throw a bit of a fit when you go over unflat panels etc.

Pro+ has too big a throw for 3" spot pads. It will be fine on 6 Pro.

Cheers Tash! So you reckon just get the Das 6 Pro and then I'd be able to use 3" and 5"? Good enough machine for an absolute novice?

I might get shot here for saying but hey ho, I'll say it . I think Pro would be a better option for you due to the option of using smaller plates. The advantage Pro+ has over Pro is that the throw allows you to cut faster and cover more area. Both these are really good machines, you can't go wrong with either of them.

I appreciate the help and honesty and based on my little knowledge, being able to use a smaller backing plate would be good for the smaller areas on my car and would be cheaper than getting a second DA Thanks once again

You'll get access to 90% of the paint area with the pro plus with a 15mm throw
Dad 6 only has a 8mm throw hence you can add the smaller backing plate

Was concerned about the smaller areas, like around the front headlights. You not think the Das 6 with the smaller backing plate would allow this and therefore tackle majority of the paint? I'm purely a novice so welcome any feedback.

Tbh, I have Pro+ that I bought off @jassyo06 and have done a few cars with it, which include two A3, E-Class, Insignia and a Q7 and I only needed the smaller plate on a handful of occasions. And this was mainly around the boot edges. Apart from that Pro+ worked fine elsewhere even on the door sills.

You can always mask the areas you don't want the DA hitting. I know these comments are not helping you but I thought I'll mention.

Lol thanks I've attached a "pro" edit of the areas I'm on about, if you think the Pro plus will do these fine then suppose it makes sense to get the Pro plus as it'll get the job done quicker.

What's the script with swirls.etc on your paint
I been to a detailer and he said a two stage would do the job, only got 8000 miles on the beat and the swirls weren't too bad according to him. Not sure of a way I can show pictures of them, so can get some advice on what's needed. Cheers.

Probably be quite difficult to show the swirls on a white car . You'd need the right lighting conditions etc.

My suggestion if going two stage based on what you've said . Stage 1, I'd use Scholl concepts Gold XXL with CG Quantum Hex logic Orange pads. Probably want at least a couple . The XXL has a good amount of cut and doesn't dust too badly.

Obviously use an IPA panel wipe between stages.

Stage 2 , I'd use CG Quantum Hex logic green pads with Menzerna 3800 . Lovely finishing polish . Not cheap but very , very good .

Sure others may suggest something similar .

Scotty has done this in a black car, so an expert I would say. For me, I used Sonax Profiline Perfect Finish with Hex Green pads...so so easy and great finish.

All recommended by the guru that is @jassyo06

Aye theres the 2 stage thing..hard graft...easily doable if you've got the time..with the gear oor @Scotty75..suggests, av never worked on glacier white Audi paint but it shouldn't be any different from Sepang or Daytona.....or go for a easy start to yer machine polishing career... with Sonax perfect finish along with ORANGE hex logic pads...bypass the green yins...loads of different combos to be honest...am a huge fan of the Flex orange polishing pads and the their purple heavy cutting pads...its also best to have a very heavy cutting pad in yer machine polishing arsenal just one..for stubborn scratches...the yellow hex logic quantum pad...or the flex green yin...flex pads are outstanding and far more sturdy and durable than the chemical guys ones...but there a pearl diver more expensive...starting out yer machine polishing career is expensive so go with the quantum hex logic pads

I ordered 2 bottles of fireball snow foam on the 13th still not arrived and seller not very good at returning emails, getting rather annoying

the state of your paint says otherwise. You have done a proper 2 stage correction scotty :icon thumright:
To be honest Nev , the two stage correction is still work in progress . Not completely finished yet . For one , time constraints. Second and third , I've been nursing some injuries. Had a recurring rotator cuff problem that showed up again and that followed by an unexplained knee injury. Probably work related but once you get past 40 ..... Need i say more

I've had a complete re-think on the A3. It's such hard work maintaining brilliant black . So I've decided to take the Syncro Kit off Jassy and lock in that to notch finish

So as before , plan is finish the paint correction. Tackle the stone chips ........ Then the big one . Weekend spent applying Syncro. A little nervous about doing it but equally can't wait either !

So you're saying just go for a single stage with orange pads and sonax perfect finish?

To be fair the state of the paint currently isn't horrendous. Can't share a picture but not a lot of swirls or deep scratches.

Another dang good polish. To be fair if your paint is really only lightly swirled, then this is a good way to go . Especially as it'll be your first time on the DA.

May take more than one pass per panel but that polish and pad combo is very good. Extra pads is key. I can remember doing the bonnet of the A3. Split the bonnet in half and did 4 passes on each half. Actually managed to disintegrate an orange pad , though that was at higher speed on the DA
