Wow your ID is genuine.....congratulations!
And now? Feeling high and mighty?
Should i post how you activate the Smartphone interface on the first unsupported C7.5 models? Or how you activate the satnav updates on 3GP units?
The problem with you is, is that you go full 100% in defensive mode when somebody talks about Odis. Yes you can brick something with Odis (and vcds, vcp, carly, obd11 etc), but everybody has to learn how to use it. Like you learned it, like i learned it and everybody else. And if they wreck something, lesson learned, wipe your teams.....And go to a specialist.
You only scare people in stead of helping/guiding them.

Yes, it is genuine, cheers. The process for gaining an authorised ID from VW Group is strict as they don't just hand them out. There are interviews, a CRB check and more. Having a genuine ID stands for a lot and allows you access to VW Groups systems and indeed support.
High and mighty no, genuine and legal yes

All customers are fully consulted and armed with the information they need in order to make a fully informed decision. Official options are always offered first, unofficial methods are offered if asked or indeed if official methods are just not possible. Not really sure what you point is here because these are not illegal, gaining access to a security controlled industry tool via unauthorised sources, a tool which can code keys, immobilisers, component protection and many other security functions is. Simple.

While its true that I have a vested interest both as a professional, and indeed as a site sponsor, what you are saying is simply not true and ultimately people can do whatever they want to do. I advise that people should "visit a specialist" 1) because they should have the experience to be able to complete the job 2) they should have genuine access to any and all needed tools and applications. Using the VC retrofit as an example potentially you need a fair amount of tools and knowledge about everything that has been mentioned so far, and I was gonna add to the information before dangerous advice was being posted in such a carefree manner. The average person is gonna become very very stuck very very fast when attempting to complete these works as a total DIY. You say that people should download software from X, gain ODIS access for a few $ from Y. You say everyone has to learn how to use it... well NO. Myself, while I have gained experience on the job, I paid for a took training before even going close to a customers car with ODIS. Fact is its a controlled industry application which at its most basic needs a police criminal background check in order to gain!
Like you learned it, like i learned it and everybody else. And if they wreck something, lesson learned, wipe your teams.....And go to a specialist.
You learned it? Indeed, but YOU are a PROFESSIONAL as well, with genuine access so you say, so I would ****** well hope so! Lesson learned? Well yes, but it could be a very expensive lesson! There is a ton of stuff that this application can do that you cannot just wipe, start over and recover from and you know it, and that's one of my core points here..... trying to protect the users of this forum by not throwing around information that can potentially cause damage, safety issues, break the law etc!
Here is a question for you.... I ask £160 to code in a virtual cockpit. As someone who wants this added to your vehicle would you really want to spend the time trying to find access to ODIS software, trying to install it, purchasing a generic pass-thru interface for £80 or so, getting connected up, finding someone to purchase illegal access from for around $30, and then spending a good day or so trying to complete your installation, trying to muddle your way through ODIS, connection dropping often, credentials being revoked so you have to purchase access again at further expense, and once you have your VC installed and coded you log off and go for a drive and find that all of your vehicles FEC codes have been wiped out by the CP and service IMMO functions so need to purchase further time, connect up and restore your functions (if you know what to do) etc etc etc or would you rather visit an authorised, experienced and in my case fully insured retrofitter who would do the job in a couple of hours for a £160.00?
Bottom line is, as much as you may want to help you have a responsibility as a professional not to throw around information which is potentially dangerous!
