I think Audi are going OTT lately and getting far too technical with the design on things like this, I've had many Audi's over the years and my personal opinion is that the older models seemed to be better and also better build quality, but maybe it's all down to making money from parts that...

It's a solenoid valve that controls the fluid flow in the mount, when the car is stationary the valve is open to allow the mount to be softer and less vibration, when the car is moving then the valve closes and stiffens up the mount, that's how I understand it.

So how do they drive now with the b5 mounts, did anyone notice a difference, I heard you get more vibration with b5 mounts

I've been on my computer for 3 hours and can't find anything, tried euro car parts but they didn't want to sell me B5 mounts as they said there not for my car and didn't have a reference number for them, I'll try the others that have been suggested and see how I get on

I don't really know, mine is a 2002 Avant maybe it's had an engine change, I can only assume it's an AWX as that's what's it states on the body plate near the bulkhead

Anyone know where I can buy a pair of new engine mounts from for a 2002 A4 B6 avant, 1.9 AWX engine, I don't want to buy from Audi, I've seen loads of used ones on ebay but can't seem to find anyone selling them, one has the electrical solenoid on it.

No it's not, mine is a completely different tensioner, anyway I've done it now, the best youtube video explaining this and the only one I could find was the Hungarian one.

Forgot to mention this kit is for the 1.9 PD with the hydraulic tensioner.

I got it from GSF car parts, it's a Ruville German kit part number 5549470 it comes with all the bits including new stud and nut, the water pump is an Airtex genuine oe, £130 for the lot.

Just done my timing belt and checked the torsion value, it's fluctuating between 0-0 0.5 and 1.1 As I understand it's within the specified limits, can anyone confirm this please.

Thanks for the info, I've seen that video and mine is totally different tensioner, mine works on the hydraulic tensioner, anyway I've figured it out and the job is done now.

My engine is running ok and has no misfires so I can rule that one out, I've experienced similar clutch judder on old school cars years ago and 99% of the time it was oil on the clutch plate! but mine has a new clutch! I'm just finding this really weird as this judder has been a known common...
