Bedford autodrome track day on the 8th April was interesting. First time at Bedford on slicks was an interesting experience. Seemed very busy on track with a lot of cars out in the early sessions . I managed to spin on an out lap and this confused the ABS and Haldex which both went into some...
First track day of the year at Castle Donington on Monday 28th Feb. Always a bit of a risk this time of the year but weather turned out pretty good. Just some light rain in the afternoon for a while made it interesting on the slicks.Usual issues with quite a few track closures due to people...
I am so lucky I am able to do stuff myself and don't have to rely on wasters who can't do a proper job and try and rip people off. If you are paying good money you expect the job to be done correctly. There are too many people who haven't got a clue what they are doing.
What year is your car? I...
Did a track day on Monday at Donningon on the GP circuit. Always done the National one before so that was a new experience, also first time out with Slick tyres, which was also an experience. Only around 9 or 10 degrees C temperature so the tyres weren't getting that hot. First time out on...
I ran an APG head on my 500BHP TT for quite a while with no issues. I had bought a complete head with cams to use the cams only. After the Wossner piston failed and scrapped the engine I rebuilt a new engine and used the APG head.
As stated earlier the head casting and porting is the same as a...
Attended a Charity Dyno Day at RTEC in Nuneaton on 17th September to see what the engine was making after it's rebuild.
Only issue with the RTEC dyno is it's just FWD and my car has 2.5 degrees of camber on the front tyres which makes getting all the power down at the front a bit tricky.
It was...
Well haven't updated the thread for a while. The TT lives on and is still doing track days and driving on the road despite a few hiccups.
What does Ignitron do that a stock ME7.X ECU doesn't do. It saves your engine from complete failure by spotting issues and making you aware there may be a...
Are they the the 2 round green seals 7 and 9 in the diagram. I don't think they are available from VAG any more. The sizes are on the diagram so you may get them elsewhere. £200 is a joke. I have reused them before with no issues...
Rick at Unicorn did a great job of remapping my 225 Mk1 TT a few years ago but he doesn't do the 1.8T's anymore. Too many cars turning up with too many issues. For the distance you want to travel I would recommend Performance Torque. They are very good and was big in the 1.8T tuning community...
Unfortunately the stock box has a few weak points that will be found out sooner rather than later once you get over 500Nm. Typically the 4th gear shreds. Two ways of attacking this replace the stock box with another stock one. They are cheap enough and some people just swap boxes out. Not the...
The output of the sensor is a digital frequency output so needs to goto one of those inputs on the ECU. I used pin 39, on my car the turbo speed sensor is user input 2.
A speed sensor is a good thing to have if you are looking to push the limits of the turbo. The G series range of turbos seem quite sensitive to overspeeding and Garret themselves make a big thing about not going over the design RPM.
Measuring the speed isn't an issue I have a speed sensor on my...
If you suspect the DPF log the DPF pressure sensor. This measures pressure on the engine side of the DPF. You will soon see if it's blocked. If the DPF is blocked and you try and rev it hard you could end up damaging the engine. Try logging EGT's as well. These will be high if the DPF is blocked...
Hi, I had a turbo made up for my 3.0 TDI CAPA engine over 8 years ago now. Used the AMG exhaust turbine and a 6+6 extended tip 66mm billet wheel. So you are in the ballpark area for around 400bhp.

A lot of it is in the first 60ft. You will find with a DSG box that your times from 330ft to the quarter mile will be very similar as long as you are running the same map.
The really quick cars tend to run drag slicks , Have LSD's and are really stripped of weight. At those kind of events they...
Like the number plate very apt. A DSG remap makes such a great difference allowing you to use all the performance of the car. Been watching doorslammers on You Tube this morning. Great coverage but not the same as being there. Fireforce 3 is just on now. The noise that thing makes is epic...
One of the new plugs was faulty? Or you fitted new plugs because one was faulty. What plugs are you using?.
Oil pressure around 1.2-1.5 bar is good at idle. Tweaking the idle speed up a little can increase oil pressure a few tenths of a bar. I find oil temp usually a few degrees over water temp...
I swapped the squib in my car for the one used in the DSG cars as it has more ways available for the DSG paddle connections , I have no issues. With ESP disabled on the ABS I couldn't get launch control to work on my DSG gearbox as the stock software needs to see ESP switched off before allowing...
I have had the ESP coded out on my TT for years with no issues. I did used to get intermittent errors with the Yaw sensor when I first had the car and there is a common issue with these. The IC on the PCB is very poorly soldered and can actually detach from the PCB. The PCB is potted in the box...
As the alloys have a CB of 72.6mm they are aftermarket. And nearly all aftermarket wheels use tapered bolts and not radius bolts. You can use radius bolts on a tapered seat and they will hold the wheel on for a while. I am sure there are probably thousands of cars driving around on the road...
