My previous car was a Golf Gtd, the arm rest is the same no difference that I have noticed. Plus point old golf had conventional hand brake and the arm rest did get in the way of that a little. New A3 - has the pull and push of the button arm rest does not get in the was at all.

This said, with cruise it must be controlled by engine braking then because going down hill there is some sort of braking applied.

I have to manually turn the volume up as my speed increases and the noise in cabin/ road noise increases, in order to listen. And decrease the volume as speed noise decreases.

So basically the Gala system should adjust the volume of the Audi Sound System, based on the speed of the vehicle. I have got it set to max, and there is no increase in the volume whatever as my speed increases.
