    Econ Button

I've driven a few B7s and found their climate system to be identical to the B6. Although I have noticed they tend to be hotter despite leaving the temp setting the same as I would have used in our B6

    I doubt this'll happen though.

A4 Quattro System - Can I Run Wider Rear Wheels..?

Not sure but I think the main factor is the rolling radius of the wheels so perhaps if you can keep that the same (or as near as you can) then it'll be OK The A4 Quattro is Torsen based and is full-time unlike the A3 system which is Haldex and effectively only sends power to the rear if the...

    New gearbox at 55,000 miles!!!! £4k !!!!!

That's probably the most you'll get from Audi. It's worth looking into consumer law. The law covers you for a period of time regardless of manufacturers warranty (6 years in England, 5 in Scotland IIRC) from purchase if you can reasonably prove that you'd expect the item to last longer than it...

    Is this corrosion???

I had exactly the same lacquer problem on my 2004 A4 on the sill just behind the front wheel. Aberdeen Audi sent pictures off to Audi who did repair the problem so I'm surprised they won't do yours. Might be worth trying another dealer. The door issue certainly looks like rust coming through...

    3.0 gearbox question

That's sort of true. The rule on A4, A6 and A8 is that Multitronics are only on FWD cars and Tiptronics are only on Quattros. AFAIK, the 3.0 was only available as a Quattro in the saloon so will be a Tiptronic but I believe the 3.0 was available with Multitronic and FWD in the cab. Same goes...

2.5 TDi Quattro Sport- your thoughts

Not very fair of you to compare a 3.0 BMW to a 2.5 Audi in the power stakes. Of course the BMW will win. AFAIK there are no major issues with the Audi Tiptronic 'box as long as it's maintained. Multitronics are a different story and I'd steer clear too. At the end of the day though consider...

    Standard Brake Sizes

288mm at the front. Not sure about the rears but I wouldn't be surprised is most A4 (except the S4 and RS4) run that same size at the rear. Dave

which bhp engine do i have ?

OK, I wasn't specific enough. AFAIK, the 1.9 in the B6 was always PD. I've never heard of a VP 1.9 in a B6. The 1.9s were only available in 100 and 130 initially and both 5 speed. The 130 changed to a 6 speed and the torque was increased around 2003. The 115 engine was a late offering before the...

which bhp engine do i have ?

130 changed from 5 to 6 speed at some point in 2003 IIRC. Torque was also upped from 210 - 228 lb/ft at the same time. The B6 was never available with the 110 engine as that's pre-PD so only in the B5.

    CD's jammed in head unit

Might be a dead mechanism but try PetrolDave's suggestion first. Ours died after our crash but the impact was quite high. Even if the mechanism is dead, you should be able to pick up a replacement on ebay quite cheap. A replacement would need recoding to the car.

    Rain Sensing Wipers

Auto wipers were not available on the B6. Don't know why as we had them on our '99 Bora and our '97 406 before that. Passat also had them. I found them to be very good although not completely perfect. The Bora ones were slightly better than the Peugeot ones.

    Brake and Headlights

Only making a suggestion. I had to change three bulbs on our B6 in 4.5 years - sidelight, tail light and rear indicator. I wouldn't say that was a huge problem. B6 headlights are open to the atmosphere which is why the get condensation inside.

    water temp question

Faulty temp sender? Check the radiator hoses from a cold start. If they start getting warm quickly then the 'stat is probably stuck open.

    Brake and Headlights

Not in my experience. I ran a pair of Phillips VisionPlus H4s in my Honda VFR for over 20k miles until they both blew within a hundred miles of each other. That to me says that the quality is good and very consistent. The OEM bulbs lasted about 5k before one blew. Bear in mind that bulbs on...

    Newbie MPG Q

Just to clarify that the Multitronics are on FWD cars and the Tiptronics are on Quattros. Of the two you're looking at, both came with Multitronic FWD but the TDI only came in manual as a Quattro. If you want a Tiptronic then you'll have to look at bigger engines like the 2.5TDI and 3.0...

    Newbie MPG Q

Given the age of car you're looking at, I'd look VERY carefully at the service history of the gearbox. The Audi Multitronic ECUs have a habit of burning out and it can be very costly to repair.

    Eagle F1 Asymetric Costs

Not actually true. They have deals with fitters and will send them direct to the fitters for you. However when I bought 4 tyres the fitter said that he could have done it cheaper! I just hadn't bothered to ask thinking that internet would always be cheaper.

    Retrofit costs?

Well I've managed to get the insurance payout up to £11k which is as high as they're willing to go. Not too bad but we'll still be out of pocket by a few grand as we're looking at newer cars to replace ours.
