I'm looking to change my tyre and reckon after much searching and deliberation that i'm going for the Eagle F1 Asymetrics. I also looked at the Toyo T1R and Uniroyal RS2, but felt the F1 offered the best all round. I currently run Sport Maxx at the rear and Nexum N6000 at the front . This was how it came from the stealers! Plan to resell the boots anyway and hope to get something back for them.

Searching through the tinternet Camskill do the F1 235/40/18 for 4 of them for £508.20 and Tyretraders £484.37 both with delivery prices included. I'll get a local garage fit etc.

Does anyone know if thats the best price to be had and are these companies ok to deal with?

Dealt with camskill before and they're very very good, especially since Im in Northern Ireland

try blackcircles and mytyres.co.uk too

blackcircles offer a combined tyre and fitting price and arrange to have them installed by a local place which can sometimes work out cheaper than buying them online and paying for them to be fitted locally

Mytyres are similar to the others in that they just deliver them but they can be pretty cheap.

I'm running GSD3's atm, last time i replaced a pair of tyres i wanted to try some RainSport2's but the eagles worked out about 15quid cheaper each as the local place i was getting them from couldnt get the RS2's, so i'd have had to order them online and pay for fitting, which was going to be around £15 per wheel.

I seemed to find the eagles wear really quickly hence wanting to try the RS2's, although the first set i didnt really make a very good note of the mileage when i fitted them, and some faulty suspension arms destroyed the inside edges off the front pair so they were replaced prematurely.

A friend of mine has tried RS1's and GSD3's back to back and reconned that while the eagles provided better grip in the dry and in the damp, they really didnt like wet/puddles due to having a relatively poor drainage setup compared to the rainsports. He found that it was quite easy to come round a corner doing 5mph faster than the rainsports would manage, to find some standing water which when the car hit it caused a complete loss of grip, whereas the rainsports did a much better job of shifting the water and keeping the tyre on the tarmac in those situations. This is the GSD3 though, the assymetric will probably be better in the wet as its quite a different design.

I have the F1 Asymetrics on my car (235/40 R18). Got them from Jeffries Tyres Bromsgrove West Midlands (not far from me) and from memory they were £118 each inc. VAT and fitting.

Aragorn - normally, I'd also vote "blackcircles", but those Eagle Asymetrics are £150 a corner there (inc fitting) for the 235/40/18.

Given that fitting is normally £10-£15 per corner, it look slike those prices are cheaper...

Still.... blackcircles are nice and convenient....

I spoke to my local independent specialist and he said that dropping to 225's would make little or no difference to the handling. However, it also drops the cost of the tyres significantly. I got a set of 225/40/18 Falken FK452 for £275 fully fitted.

It will slightly alter your speedo readings and gearing, but not much to worry about.

My only concern would be if the tyres were now too narrow for the rim. 225/45r17's are fitted to 7.5" wide rims on the B5 S4 as standard. If your fitting them to 8" rims you might find the sidewalls are stretched inwards, which isnt good for the tyres stability during cornering and also means that your rim is more exposed to nice kerbs.

Not actually true. They have deals with fitters and will send them direct to the fitters for you.

However when I bought 4 tyres the fitter said that he could have done it cheaper! I just hadn't bothered to ask thinking that internet would always be cheaper.
