+1 for Xtrons. I have the latest model (Androind 8, 4GB memory, octo core) and can only recommend it to everyone. As to the GPS antenna, I glued it to the air vent pipe inside the dash just above the HU and it works well.
The Xtrons HU is plug and play. It doesn't have anything in common with the RNS-E/D. It has two different harnesses to choose from depending on your car's original setup.
I'm sorry for answering for the OP, but let's him do the creative job :) He linked to these speakers in another thread: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152515282769
Thanks for the write up! I was thinking of this upgrade since I read your post the very first time and I'm almost ready for this mod (though I doubt I can find time due a few projects in progress.)
Did you figure out how to fit the twitters yet?
I'll try to help as I've got the same car and HU.
- There are two harnesses with a quadlock looking connector in the xtrons package. Choose one that fits your quadlock on the car side.
- Connect the other side of this xtrons quadlock connector (the 2-row 20-pin black connector) to the lower...
@YorkieTom, do you have a rear view camera? Mine (connected wireless) can cause alternator noise when it's hot outside and/or after 20 minutes after the engine start. It disappears when I disconnect the camera. It bothers me sometimes but happily it happens rarely.
I'm doing it. I installed MicroDroid app to my phone and set it up to turn on Hotspot as soon as BT connection is established and turn off Hotspot when the BT is disconnected. It works like charm, no need to enable it every time you get in the car.
Mine didn't fit flush, felt out and covered the chrome strip with the lower part of the facia. The OE rubber strips help to fit it tighter, but still it screams to be pushed up a tad. That's why I tried and put the rubber under the unit.
Just got an idea and a suggestion for you. Check out the...
The picture above is Android 8 Xtrons unit with a custom launcher/home screen. It fits well because I've done some mods. Before I list all of the mods, I have to say that the Android 8 RNSE-style unit has a thicker back plate which serves as a cooler. I didn't compare it to the previous unit I...
Tap an "all-open-windows" icon in the top bar. Choose one window and drag it to the left hand side of the screen. It opens on the left half of the screen. Then choose the second window and tap it (or its top, I don't remember exactly) and it will open and fill the right part of the screen. There...
I owned both and according to my experience, the RNS-E style looks better due less shiny plastic. It also fits better in the dash because its facia has longer side borders.
It's simple. Buy a microSD card, copy your music files/folders to the SD card and insert this card into an SD card slot on the face panel of your head unit.
I would forget of all this s**t unless I wanted headaches. Old units needed rooting and clocking due lack of performance. It's not an issue with this one. It works fast, so no need to destroy what is working. That's just my humble opinion based on previous experience.
When I bought my first Xtrons a year ago from a UK store, the unit was out of stock. The Xtrons sales manager contacted me and asked if I wanted to wait two wheeks of get a refund. I chose waiting and got the head unit shipped exactly when they promised. The head unit was shipped from the UK...
Nothing's strange actually. All the sellers use the same stock. None of them have a unit at home. They dropship your purchase, eg when you order an item, they go to their partner account at the manufacturer's/wholeseller's and purchase the item with the money you just paid them and give your...
