copy's look just as good but if you strike a kerb or hit something there is a strong chance that it may split or shatter but originals mostly buckle.
i bought a combination of 2nd hand and new and refurbed them to look new but the final choice is yours.
the cause of your problem are the piston rings not sealing properly due to a manufacturing blunder by VW/AUDI.
VW/AUDI know about this as it affects the 1.8tfsi and 2.0tfsi from 2008-2012.
I am a victim of this issue as I lost the engine and had to buy a new one from Audi stealers.
expect you...
i'm not an expert but when I did screw up I filled the tank all the time with diesel and the problem went after 2 fill ups.
(I never flushed the £17 worth of petrol I stuck in).
don't panic.
Another thing to look at is the size of the centre bore where it meets the hub.
Originals are 57.1 but reps will have a higher figure and will need spigots to fill in the gaps.
I hope that helps.
If you have no experience I'll suggest you get someone in the know with VCDS or VAGCOM to fit and code it.
I watched mine whilst it was done and the results are fantastic.
One more thing is to make sure you buy original OEM bulbs as aftermarket ones are not that good.
I'd suggest getting second hand bixenon original headlights from a breakers yard or eBay and contact a guy on this forum with a user name of Ash.
He fitted and coded mine to my 2009 Audi a3.
Expect to pay at least 600£ for the complete headlight with ballast plus another 60£ for the kufatec...
The 1.8tfsi on the 8P chassis was not very popular choice as buyers went for the 2.0 tfsi but on the 8V chassis the 1.8 tfsi replaced 2.0 tfsi. So the 1.8 tfsi will be the next choice before the s3.
Looks like Audi have a lot to hide here in the UK and the relaxed attitude of the British consumer will allow Audi to get away with this. I had to pay £2840 towards the cost of a new engine following a total engine failure.
