Got the car to the garage- looks like I forgot to get the o-ring fitted between the cooler manifold and the engine block. this will be a pig to refit, does anyone know whether the fuel pump is timed? Removing this will make life easier but I am told it is timed and therefore not to go near it...
update- having looked at the coolant manifold online to see where the thermostat is, I had a feel around and couldnt locate it at all. In any case, the whole area was dry (sooty, but dry).
The leak appears to be coming from low down, under the main engine block toward the back.
I fear the...
I don't actually remember removing the plastic U clip, I wonder if that is the issue as I wouldn't have made any effort to replace it. Is it easy/obvious how to replace/secure this? I'm not necessarily losing all my coolant though, it just drops down to a certain level- this may be because I am...
I have just successfully managed to replace the EGR cooler and connector pipe on my '07 2.0 170 quattro. Hurrah!
As you can imagine, doing this incurred a big loss of coolant (I had to remove the coolant manifold in order to gain clearance to fit the new pipe around the back of the engine).
I...
The guy who replied before my last post with the pic.
Managed to get it all switched over, had to remove the fuel filter and coolant manifold in order to wiggle the connector pipe in but got there in the end. I've not seen anyone explain how to do this job on my variant of engine so took some...
Intrigued that you say not to remove the EGR cooler. I had been debating whethe to do this but cost of parts was significantly less than the remap required to delete the egr. Plus I am told it is now illegal to do this.
Interestingly though, I noted the gasket between the EGR valve and the...
So my cooler pipe has blown off where it meets the engine, and the connector pipe has blown where it meets the egr cooler.
I've managed to remove the cooler and the old connector pipe, however can't get the new one in.
Do I have to remove the coolant gubbins mounted to the rear of the engine...
Hi Folks,
So my steering rack has failed again, this happened approx 3 yrs ago so the refurbed rack has not lasted long.
It appears to be leaking from the drivers side of the steering rack, same place as last time I believe.
So my question is, why has this happened in the first place, and...
Hi Folks,
n0oB question here I'm afraid. FYI- B7 A4 170ps quattro.
My steering rack has developed another leak evidenced by creeping oil residue inside the wheelarch
Picked up by my local garage however something I've been ignoring for the last couple of years (just keep topping up the fluid...
I was in a hurry to get the drinks holder open months ago (can't remember why...who's ever in a hurry to store a drink?!)
In pulling it out a managed to pull the front fascia off and b*gger the spring mechanism in it. I managed to get the fascia half on and it slides in and out however the...
Took car to ATS on Saturday, pre-gas vacuum/pressure test was A-OK and actually some gas came out too as it was still half full. So re-gassed etc and now working fine, they got 6 degrees C out of it. No longer stuck in econ mode which is a relief.
Will continue to monitor as I was expecting it...
Car being serviced today and have asked them to do a scan too.
What element is self diagnosing, out of interest? The fact that it is jumping into eco mode?
ok, will check this, thank you. The light sometimes stays on but as I say sometimes it is possible to switch it off, just depends on what mood it is in.
Thanks guys. I've not had it regassed, this is one my pre-spring/summer jobs to do (but at this rate I'll need it done before march). Hopefully this will solve the problem and there isn't a larger underlying issue.
Will the pipes be cold to touch all the time or only when engine is running...
Hi All,
Newbie here with a suitably newbie-ish question, looking for some insight.
My air-con has never worked (I thought it did, this is the drawback of test driving in winter!) and last summer in the heatwave it was unbearable.
I have noticed however that when I have my arm on the...
