Short Shifter for B7 RS4

Hi All,

I've just purchased myself a 2007 RS4, take delivery in around 2 weeks.

I'm in Perth Australia (where its currently 35 deg C).

I suspect they are a teeny bit more expensive here than in the UK, I paid AU$110,000 for it!(£68,000)

Ive been a member on here for a while now, owning an 8L S3, but finally got to add another Audi to the garage.

In the meantime, I was curious if anyone had any ideaa or opinions on short shifters for the RS4?

been doing a bit more research and found this crowd.

If anyone is considering it, it looks well worth researching some more.

Personally I find the stock gearchange to be pretty much spot on - certainly one of the best manual cars I've driven including some alot more exotic than the RS4.
The problem with short shifters is that by their nature you'll be decreasing the throw distance and simlary increasing the effort required to shift. This has the knock on effect of moving all the gearbox internals that much faster increasing wear as you'll most likely keep shifting hand speed the same (or possibly quicker).
Now I don't have a problem with this fundamentally I have have done this myself on other cars but only when the standard setup is so awful that it gets in the way.

Personally I find the stock setup short enough already, I would advise trying it for a few months before changing it! At the end of the day short shifters are more about personal preference anyway. I had one on my mk4 golf but that was only because the push down spring to engage reverse got very tired and instead of putting the car in 1st gear I would often get reverse instead (annoying at traffic lights!!!!)...

And £68,000!!!!!!!!!!!! I will sell you mine for £40,000 and post it for free lol

I got hooked on short-shifters many many years ago, with my first car an Escort RS2000 - the shortshift on that was sensational with only your hand requiring minimal movement, your arm didnt even move!

since then, I've typically installed them and have a dieselgeek in my S3 now.

My main concern is how much extra effort might be involving in changing gear - my wife will drive it most of the time, and she wont be happy if she starts developing large biceps!
