What Turbo?

Hi all,

I have a '96 1.8T with the AEB engine, looking to fit a larger turbo at some point, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Your first choice has to be a power target. Everything else depends on that figure.

Not planning on mega BHP in all honesty, the car has just done 200k but there is a tiny crack on the turbine housing.

I'd rather uprate than straight replace. So more power... I'd probably be looking down the avenue of:

Turbo
Front Mount Intercooler
Enclosed air filter (Car has been running a 57i since before I bought it)
De-cat
Re-map or mappable system.

Obviously I think I'd have to uprate my clutch and brakes at the same time...

Also need to find some coilovers in due course too!

If your not going for any power goals And upgrading you could go with a genuine Borg warner bolt on K04-015 (around £700 and not a eBay shanghai special at around £300) good for 210bhp or go scroll or Frankenturbo they are are good for 240-300bhp depending on compressor spec (around £600-£800) franken is the better deal as you get the exhaust manifold and diverter or 3" maf !

Yeh the frankenturbo is a good buy i think.

The turbine housing on every single K03 turbo in existence is probably cracked, it usually doesnt affect them at all, why do you think yours needs replaced?

Im going t3 with external wastegate and screamer pipe just to be different

You may have problems tuning with the ecu on a 96?

Yeh, probably best swapping it for a later harness and ECU.
