All of this made me think about what happened a few weeks ago.
I was driving down a main road and approached a set of traffic lights which were on red. There were two lanes, the right hand one had a car in it who was already there as I arrived, the left lane was empty so I pulled up in that one, next to the other car.
After these traffic lights, about 70-100 yards down the road, the left lane turns into a bus lane.
The lights turned to green and we both set off. I pushed my car a bit so I could get a fair distance in front of the car to my right and then indicate and pull across before the bus lane started so I didn't enter it.
I was about a car length in front of him at this point and the guy in the car next to me must've sensed what I was trying to do and started to rev the b*llocks out of his car (a vectra or something, can't remember).
Anyway, I could feel him coming back at me so I pushed my car a little more so I was two to three cars lengths in front of him, indicated and pulled across into his lane and continued accelerating away from him.
He didn't like this!
The next thing I know is he's doing about 50mph to catch me up (I was doing about 40), and then he's right behind me. I look in my rear view and he's sticking his fingers up at me, mouthing some sh*t.
I continue at 40 (the speed limit) and he stays right behind me. Then we get to another red light so I stop. I look in the mirror and he's still spouting a loads of abuse or something. Strangely I was in a calm mood and found it funny rather than reacting.
We set off again, me still at 40, him still tailgating.
We both turned off of the main road and went down a small residential road. As I was driving along I saw two coppers walking along and they went up the path of someone's house, so I slowed down and stopped just past that house in the middle of the road, which meant the guy benhind also had to stop his car.
I looked back and saw the guy jump out of his car and literally run up to the police and start pointing towards me and getting quite animated.
The police came up to my car and asked me to step out of the vehicle, so I did.
The first question that came out of the coppers mouth were (with an unfriendly accusing tone)......... "So what's with the erratic driving?!"
My calm mood changed.
I said to the copper.... "So you're not going to ask me what happened, or start off by telling me what the other guy has accused me of? You're just going to ask me WHY I WAS driving erratically?".
At this point the other copper (good cop) butted in and explained that they received a complaint from this guy and have to follow it up.
I said that was fair enough but you need to ASK what happened, not just as good as accuse me of driving erractically.
Anyway, I told them what happened, and the good cop explained that the other guy was swearing etc when he approached them so he's willing to believe my explanation of the events, and off I went.
Looked back at the other guy, smiled and drove off.
Moral of this story....
I hate people who can't deal with the reality that my car is faster than theirs.
