I've lately been getting a noise when I turn my steering wheel to the right. It seems only to come when I turn to the right. The noise is like a metal on metal noise, like a rubbing or something. I've checked the power steering fluid levels and there spot on so Im getting a little worried.

Any ideas?

I'm hoping its just with the cold weather but what could it be?

I have a creaking sort of noise when turning unsure of what it is. Was told by main dealer it's characteristic cos I couldn't find anything at work and not could my tech's. Unsure bit everything is visually ok

It's vibration through the steering rack that's causing the noise. Mines been doing it for over a year now but everything performs as it should.

Audi went round replacing the steering rack and suspension components but they never solved the issue. I wouldn't worry about it

I was gunna book it in but i'll leave it for now and see if anything develops, hopefully it wont. Cheers guys

When this has cropped up on the forums before it has turned out to be the tyres. Swap your fronts to the back and see if it changes the issue.

OK so the noise is getting worse and now it comes and goes even if I dont turn the steering wheel. It seems to be worse when I first start the car up, like the cold makes it worse.

I thought could it be that some type of oil or fluid isn't getting round the components for a bit when the car is first started? The noise sounds like when I drove my scooby with the power steering not working, a whinning sound.

I would normally take it straight to my local VAG specialist but due to work commitments I can't but Im worried if Im doing more damage each time I use my car.

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked and its on MAX.
