Well, I've booked the car in at VW Rescue for next Friday to have the clutch done. I'm supplying the parts and the total cost will be £650 all in. They won't warranty the parts, but I can't justify the extra £200 for it. Hopefully it'll be in and out in a day.

If they won't warranty the parts what happens if you develop any issues later on ?
I know you will be looking to save @ £200 but if anyone has to take it back out for any sort of inspection then that cost saving will go straight out of the window !
Not trying to **** you off - just food for thought

id not worry to much about them warranty the cluch where ever you got it from will do that any way the place fitting it no this so if it goes wrong you take it back it gets replaced and the cost of fitting should also get replaced as it was a fulty part

I think I'm going to stick with supplying the parts myself. I'm going to the same place that they get their parts from and using exactly the the brand. What can go wrong!!!!! lol

So let me get this right your buying the clutch parts from the same place that the garage would yet if you want them to buy the parts for you it will cost you £200 extra (bear in mind that they will get the parts cheaper than you as well)....I'd be looking for a different garage myself

ADC74's is correct if you supply the parts and the clutch fails you'll have to pay labour again to replace it, if they supply and fit the parts and it fails they have to replace the clutch FOC.

Every garage does it I'm afraid. Midlands VW will not warranty parts if you supply them yourself either. Albeit they are slightly cheaper, the only difference is (for me anyway) is that they are farther away and VW Rescue is only down the road. Both are reputable VW / Audi specialists...

So it won't matter where you go you'll get the same issue.....

naa if you buy a part from, say, gsf and pay a reptuable garage to fit it. if that part fails and its not due to wear and tear, the garage charges you again, you can claim that back from gsf!

as a garage if a faulty part breaks that gsf has supplied and we fitted, we would put a claim in with gsf for the lost labour at trade prices.
i dont see why it would be any different with a customer off the street?

jack tdi found out the expensive route recently if you search..... had a black diamond clutch fitted and new dmf and the clutch was slipping badly cost twice as much to re strip down and replace clutch !!! he got is penny back for the parts but not the labour was only fitted around a week and complained the minute it was fitted !!!

Had the car done today...

Made a big difference to how the car feels and drives. Engine feels revvier and more willing to rev. I hadn't realised how hight the biting point was until I've driven it with the new clutch in. In fact I stalled it as I went to reverse out of the space at VW Rescue because the bite was so much lower.....

All in all I'm very satisfied.....
