Manual or Multitroni gearbox

Having had both, for me it would be a manual but you have to weigh up lots of different aspects, type of car, type of driving, lots of stop starts etc so it would be very different from one person to the next. Multitronics can develop probs if g box oil not changed under every 40k but then again manuals can have clutch failures too depending on mileage and how they have been treated.

Dont forget the quattros have tiptronic which is a conventional auto box with a torque converter, very reliable .

I would have a Quattro manual or auto

I have long favoured 4wd over 2wd Subaru and now 2.5Tdi auto previously a manual. There are too many reports of problems with the Multitronic box

For peace of mind i would preffer a manual gearbox simply as i like to be in control and i can fix a clutch if it goes wrong ! Auto gearboxes are one complication i can do without !
As mentioned go with quattro automatic or manual especially on big, torquey engines ! If you want a reliable automatic gearbox then buy a beemer !
