I have an 02 1.8T, just hit 57k miles I only do about 3-4k miles a year these days, most of the week the car sits on the drive. The car now needs a cambelt/water pump replacement, discs and pads alround, new CV joint and a few other bits, can't do the work myself and in total is a bout £780 worth of work all in and thats with parts from me and London rates. The car can't be worth more than £2.5k if that in its current state, I just cannot decide whether to get the work done or ditch the car and get something newer, my worry is that if I fork out for the work needed now I could also end up with alot of other expensive fixes needed soon just due to age of car, like a a new clutch (how long they live in a3?) , and then I read about needing to have the oil feeder sorted etc, also Ive got the rusting on the roof.
So if you were me would you keep the car and get the work done on it, or sell the car and buy something for £5k ?
