Can anyone tell me where I can find the throttle charger/valve connection? As my a3 1.8t sport 2001 keeps registering this fault?

Thanks

Whats the actual fualt? fault code and description woulfd be useful...

Can't remember the number but the discription says throttle charger/valve connection

Sorry mate, means nothing... rescan and post the code... assuming this is done with VCDS then also post the full description...

Just searched the VCDS wiki and can't fine anything with that description... if using a generic code reader then the fault code is more important than the desc...

17705/P1297/004759 - Ross-Tech Wiki

17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

This is why the fault code is more important than the vague description :)

This normally comes up on mapped cars when the outside temp drops to 5deg or below and leads to limp mode until you cycle the ignition after which its fine... is this what you are experiencing?

I'm getting a misfire when cold to the point the peddle is flat to the floor and it won't rev up once warm it seems to be fine with some slight hesitation at low revs

In that case then you may well have an air leak... have you checked all pipes, hoses etc for signs of splitting etc? all the pipes under the inlet (normally covered in fresh looking oil being a give away that there is a leak/split pipe somewhere)... a cursory look isn't enough... the pipes split on seams, corners and underneath where you can't see them... you will have to spend some time looking but generally if it can see oil and boost then it stands a chance of splitting..

Get the car to a garage that has a smoke test machine if you are not sure what you are looking for... we use it on most 1.8t's these days and almost always shows a damaged pipe somewhere...

Smoke test has been done and all is good. I've had all the pipes off from under the inlet and checked all these no splits visible

if it is actually a 17705 code there was a software bug that most mappers can code out when doing remaps... as you think yours isn't mapped then not sure what to suggest...

Is it a standard DV? (black plastic one) does the turbo make like a cho cho cho noise when you let off the throttle as the boost comes in?

<tuffty/>

I would suggest taking it to a local specialist then for a once over and diagnostics on the dyno.... if you have checked all the usual suspects I am not sure what else to suggest at this time...

Did you rescan the car for faults at all? have you cleared it and it comes back?

Yeah I clear the faults but it comes back not sure when it happens whether it's starting from cold is when it's noticeable
ill look in to a specialist and get some prices
