I've come to this car from a Mk5 Golf GT TDI with the 140 engine and I am really surprised at how rough the 170 engine appears to be compared with the 140. Yes the 170 has more power (above about 2,000 rpm) but, it is very growly. Also the throttle response in neutral seems very notchy, the revs go up in steps rather than smoothly. Is this normal.

I would like to get a remap and DPF removal done, but all the specialists I read about appear to be in the Midlands and northwards. Is there anyone who comes well recommended in the south east.

Thanks K.

Have you had the car checked on VCDS? I've found the 170's to be a lot smoother than the 140's but it only takes a couple of thing to make run a bit ropey.

The first thing I noticed when I test drove my 170 A3 over my Golf 140 mk5 was the Audi was far smoother. As the poster above says, get it scanned. Also give it a tank of the good stuff and not supermarket fuel. My Golf ran like a tank when it had Tesco stuff in it.

Hello,

170's suffer from a multitude of problems such as EGR valves, Intake flaps, DPF's, injector settings, which can make them all run rough. In proper working order it should be very smooth, but it doesn't take much to knock it out.

I'm in West Kent, I was looking for somebody in Kent, Surrey Sussex, London even Essex, Middx, Hants but, ideally somebody with a bit of a recommendation. i was thinking of MRC in Banbury who have a good reputation for their work but, they're not too good at responding to my emails.
