Got a 2006 A3 2.0 tdi Quattro and losing coolant ( slowly ) in Audi specialist & he said vagcom is pointing towards cylinder head or Egr cooler ??
What sort if money is a refurb head or to refurb my own ?
Once done has any one had issues with it going again ??
Cheers
Baz.

If they said head or coolant wouldn't it be easier to check the cooler first? before jumping head first into the cost of a new/refurb head.

Yeah am curious of costs for either Job & reliability afterwards - he is continuing with his investigation but am flapp'n due to how much this could cost !
If not gonna be reliable I'll trade it in against something rather than lose everything I got in the car......

just paid 600 quid for a new head with valves already seated on a exchange basis labour around 500

Well head gasket / egr cooler rules out !
Now thinking water pump, hopefully lol
I'll be we'll chuffed !!

Leaking coolant housing / cap? Common prob on loads of different makes of car. BMW E46 notorious.
Only shows up when coolant is hot, which causes joints/cracks to expand.

Get some Steel Seal and put that in, do it properly tho by the instructions.

You will never lose water again, trust me! I have it in mine
I started off losing it slowly but it got faster nd faster until i was loosing a tank a day.

This sorted it!

Sorted - thought its was head it egr cooler - happy to have been wrong !!
