as opposed to other post, what is the worst car you have ever driven? (not owned)

i'll give 2

Citroen AX /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

plus - a police 4x4 'cause everybody drives so slow near you, pfft LOL
 
tough one - had a lot of dross in the past, driven a lot of dross too!

Contenders are

-Mark 1 Escort - couldnt drive or stop in anything vaguely approaching a straight line..
-Citroen BX with shot suspension (bounce bounce bounce bounce) - scary heap..

Most dissapointed in:
Subaru WRX, had it just a few weeks, had been really looking forward to it.. 2% of the time, best car ever - 98% hated it, couldnt live with it, not missed at all..

Most shocked by:
New 1.4 Corsa loan car - a truly nasty experience, the most vague steering ive ever encountered, wandered all over the place.. shocking on a new vehicle..

most hated to be seen in:
A borrowed lime green 1970s Hillman Avenger.. had it two weeks, only drove it after dark!

But my personal winner:
a 1.8 petrol Freelander, one of our company vehicles in pastel blue with bunkup bars.. forget what it looked like, driven foot to the floor this was still INCAPABLE of reaching 45mph from a rolling start on a roundabout, by the top of the sliproad when joining the dual carriageway.. it rolled, wallowed, had inadequate brakes (how?!) and was the most frustrating vehicle ive ever touched! truly, truly awful
 
Is it just me, or are journeys SOOOOOO boring when your a passenger (or driver for that matter) when you are in a horrendously slow car!?

Depends what you want from a car. Some slow cars are great because they are were never intended to be fast but do something else really well, like carry a lot of gear, or are very quiet and comfortable. Only if a car fails to meet it's purpose does it become bad.
 
Marctwo - its a fair point - We had an old toyota spacecruiser (automatic!)for years as the kids were growing.. slow as you like but everyone in the family loved it! it wasnt as 'posh' as the espace we had previously, wallowed and rolled, but was still comfortable and smooth, 100% reliable, looked like a brick, but took everything thrown at it, from kids with bikes to loads of timber and diy stuff - it just did what it said on the tin..

Mind you, it was the second car, and mine was just a tad quicker ;-)
 
An old 1.0 nova, the best thing was the challenge of seeing how fast i could get, best hanbrake on any car i've had or drivern including a mini but still a sh!te car.

Truely horrible car! slow, noisey (not the right noise anyway) rolled like a bar steward and fell to pieces!

Couldn't agree more! Had it as a courtesy car for ages. truly, truly bad. I'm sure the steering wheel was to the left of where it was supposed to be too. The tyres squealed when you went around a roundabout at more than 10mph and the seat didn't go back far enough, and I'm average height!

It made me think how much fun to drive my old 1.3 fiesta was in comparison!

my bro just bought it few months back after passing his test

get screeching wheels at 20mph on roundabouts from its tiny alloys
steering like a land train - no point having indicators as it doesnt turn left or right

My cousin also has a 1.3 festa... Truly horrendous! Its noisy, slow, nearly tips over round corners.... Its just way too boring.
 
My gran's Rover Metro... the heaviest car (surprisingly) I've ever had the displeasure of driving!
 
Yep - pretty much anything made by Vauxhall I've ever driven (except my first car, a P-reg (1st time around!) 1.9 Cavalier). Had an Astra 1.7 diesel as a rental in France one year - non-turbo. That was truly horrendous.

first car D reg polo 1.0 litre , was good and solid, but so slow! clocked it 30 secs 0-60mph, i started prefering public transport to it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif but it was a gift as my first car and cherished it for that, my gripe is the 0-60 what makes it the worst car for me to drive, even a sub 15 sec 0-60 would have pleased me lol, did learn unbelievable patience with it though
 
If nothing else, starting off with a small engined car teaches you to work the gears and keep momentum through the corners LOL
 
Zastava ( Yugo) Fiat 128 Clone, worst car ever, the suspension used to raise so much on acceleration that the driveshaft would "pop" out of the gearbox, i had to buy some of those lowering clamp things,lol ( looked like exhaust clamps)
Only thing it had going for it was it used to rev to like 8000 rpm,lol
 
Gawd! Where do I start?

Worst owned would have to be a 1977 Fiesta 1.1S, with extra ventilation through the holes in the front wings and sills.

The worst I've driven would probably be a 1981 Talbot Horizon 1.5 Automatic that my mother-in-law owned. It had the roughest, wheeziest engine I've ever experienced, and non-power assisted steering that gave you a better workout than a multi-gym. Even when the wheels did eventually turn, the car didn't actually change direction. Oh, yes, and the interior was pure plastic class. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Got to agree , mate had one ,altho the "ash tray" mounted on the lip that served as the pasenger side dash was great fun to watch on turns/round-a-bouts as it shot left to right !
Also had the mis fortune of borrowing a friends cortina(younger members can do a google search lol) and as u changed into 3rd gear the stick would come out in your hand!
My own personal "owened" worst car was a honda prelude(hey it was my 1st car) it also had a 0-60 time of like 2weeks! ,turns at over 15 mph where done at owners risk !
 
ok I dont know the name of this car, its purple and yellow, looks like one of those disabled car things that used to be on the road and it just fits 2 ppl in it. The reason I dont know what it is, is that I cry with laughter when I see our local doctor in it. I`ll try and find the name but it is by far the worst.

and in second place most vauxhalls.

You guys would probably call it the worst, however I quite liked my time in the.....

Brown (of course) 1981 Austin Allegro 1.5 (twin Weber 40s!)

It was actually quite 'quick' considering though unforunately the gearbox was so screwed it wouldn't let you change down into second!

Having said that it had THE comfiest rear seats ever experienced (if you know what I mean!) - it was like a couch!!! ;-)

My favourite owned car was my MG Maestro 2.0 Efi.... and yes, I used to dream about owning the Turbo - advertised as 'Faster than a Ferrari' when it first came out! What a dream car!!!!!!!!
 
I was going to say my first car, which was a 'B' reg 950 Fiesta Popular in attractive Ford "sunburst" red (orange to the rest of us). After 125K miles on the original suspension and with 135R13 tyres, it struggled to tame the alleged 39bhp on tap and so truly frightening understeer was an everyday occurrence. It only had 4 gears (none with any synchromesh left), topped out at about 75 downhill with a following wind and even moderate uphills required a downshift. It didn't have servo operated brakes either, but that didn't matter as there was so little rubber in contact with the ground it was relatively easy to lock the front wheels.

However, when I had that I drove a mate's 1250 Chevette, which had all the negative attributes of the Fiesta, was no faster, and had nasty vinyl seats (the Fiesta's were cloth). So the Shove It wins!
 
Renault 19 1.3 plain white black plastic bumpers, major roll, crap interior. Death Trap. My upgrade from a van to a Company Car.

i drove my sisters pug 309 (n reg) last week........ my god that is one hatefull car.
ive had plenty of vans which i have had to wrestle to drive.
but the worst on my list has to be c citron dianne ( like a 2cv)...i had it in france for a bit as the rag top allowed a ten foot surf board to be transported easily........ it leaned to almost 45 degrees on bends, the gear shift comes out the dash and is in reverse to a normal box....so first is where second is, third where forth is etc.... bad.......bad...bad..... bonus points were rag top, bench seat in the front and the way the two cylinder pencil sharpener of an engine screamed like a bike..... window squirter was like a half tennis ball on the floor you had to pump ???? wtf ???
when i had finished with it, i cut it in four bits with an angle grinder and skipped it.
god rest its nasty soul.

Literally a brick with half a brick sat on top!

It was like "hunt the gears in a pot of porridge" with the gearstick. probably 20cm between 1st/2nd gate and 5th gate!!

Suspension like you were floating in water.........EEEEWWWWW!!

Just looked up the specs on the Turbo model. Wow! That's one fast car (for the time). As quick as an S3. Respect.

Ah, but have you ever seen one close up? Even when they were new, the assembly standards were, um, how shall I put it?......approximate.

If they had fitted door-open warning lights in those days, they'd have come on when the car went round a corner.

My MG Maestro was in the garage less than my A3 (although that's probably me with my rose tinted specs on!)

Anyway, there's only about 200 of these babies left in existence - they only made about 500 of them in the first place!

My own experiences were with the Montego version rather than the Maestro, but I stand by them. Did yours have the door pulls that were only attached to the door card, rather than the door itself, so after a while they just pulled the card out of shape?

a 2002 renault megane cabriolet.
worst car ever,
just would not go around corners in the wet, which you have to agree in this country is a bit of a problem!!
sold it after just 3 days of ownership.

OMFG! anything over 50kg in the back and it handled like a drunk uncle at a wedding...

Fiat Ducato 1.9
Awfully slow with anything in the back, total shed, the interiour would give anything the japs did in the 70's a run for their money...

Why oh why do fleet managers never test any of these vehicles with a load in the back....
