Why has my '54 A3 3.2 Quattro DSG got 18" wheels? Tyre selectors all say 17"

Even the Audi online quote indicates the tyre should be 17"?
As I only cover <5000miles p.a. I thought a set of winter tyres would be useful.
So I could probably get a full set of wheels with tyres at 17" and narrower for Dec-Feb.
Bit cheaper than 18" rims.

TIA for any thoughts...

18" wheels were an option on a new car mine has them too I think the are 225/40/18 I think or 45

225/45/17 and 225/40/18 are the standard sizes

and as above someone has probably chosen them as an upgrade when ordered or just put them on at a later date! Worth mentioning that 17" is the smallest size wheel you can get away with on the V6 due to the enormous front brakes, but maybe you knew that
