hi all

I may have a chance to get a set of 225/55/16 winter tyres for a knock down price and was wondering if that size is

1. ok to fit onto a 1999 a3 1.8 ( non turbo )

2. what model rims would i need as there are 17" rims currently on the car

thanks

Brendan,

That tyre size will be fine for the car. You'll need a set of A3 16 inch rims though for them to go on

If they're winter wheels, maybe some steelies

they'll be a bit "tall" and might scrub a bit.

standard size is 205/55r16 or 225/45r17, both of these are 630mm diameter tyres.

225/55r16 is probably closer to 660mm.

My brother ran 225/50r17 winter tyres on his S4 2 years ago, which are the same overall size as the tyres you propose, and the S4 runs the same 630mm tyres as the A3 does as standard. His car was mostly fine, but he caught the arches a few times on bumps in the road.
