Hi all, had my 170q for nearly a year now and decided to get dpf and egr delete with remap. Now after all my desicion making and researching I've only just realised I've never actually had any problems or warning lights about the dpf, could this mean it's already been taken out? I only mainly do around town driving and many of my friends tell me they have problems all the time and have to take it up the motorway every now and then, I just don't want to take it to get it done and get charged for nothing!

Another thing is that when I bought the car and test drove it, it seemed rapid, I had it for 2 weeks and took it back for timing belt and new clutch and flywheel ( part of the deal I got from the garage). After I picked it up I.complained it had lost power and responsiveness, they checked everything and it was fine, I thought I must of just been imagining things and it's ran perfect ever since. Now I'm beginning to think maybe it did have dpf removed and aremap and when they checked it over they reset the map not knowing about it. Could this be the case do you think? Or would I still be getting warnings?

Thanks for any advice, looking to go to durham remaps end of march.

They have possibly not put the engine timing back to what is was before. Diesel engine timing has a big effect on it's performance and even small changes can make a difference. Could be your engine had a little more advance than standard now has less but both could be within the specification.
Was it a main dealer you took the car too ? , as they would be the only ones to upload a new map and if it had the DPF removed it would have reported a fault quite quickly.
Get the remap place to check the cam timing on VCDS.

Cheers Karl, it wasn't a main dealer it wad a indy garage where I got the car from. They checked it over and said it was fine but for piece of mind I took it to another garage who specialise in German cars and they also said it was fine. My main concern is how I've never had any problems with the dpf which is making me wonder if it's already been done.

The first few weeks of having the car it stunk out the.back end and was a little smokey but nothing since, although when I filled up just the other day it stunk again and had very light smoke for a few minutes but that stopped and seems spot on overall. Now I've read that if.I have a look under the car I might be able to tell if it's been took out, but not if it's just been knocked through. Is there any sure way of knowing without paying the stealer to.have a quick check? Cheers boys.

If you get smoke when you're getting away quickly from the traffic lights then you either have no DPF or it is not functioning correctly. Best bet is to have a look under the car and see if it is there. It should have two pipes going to it (pre and post) which checks the pressure drop across it to determine when it is full.

I've been onto a mate to try nd get it on the ramps where he works for a quick look although it will have to be quick as wel get shot if we're seen, it's a local council garage where they fix the vans lol, cheers for the advice and I'll post back when I find out, can't biddy wait for the remap like, hammering overtime this month for it!

If it has a DPF you shouldn't get any smoke out the back at all. Mine has 75K on the clock and I modded the rear boxes and there was no black soot at all in the rear box or pipe, It was like the day it was made.
If it's not steam you are seeing then it's got no DPF. Just check the inside of the tailpipe.
DPF's don't fail so that they let soot through they just block up so they stop the gas getting out as well.

Karl.

Well funny enough I had some chrome tips fitted a couple month back and the inside of them are now filthy with soot

You have no DPF.
Inside of my back box with 75K on the clock.

I see! So how does taking out actually benefit then coz surely the exhaust will now just keep on clogging up with soot now, or is it purely to prevent further problems at the front end if the dpf itself did clog up? Is there any way to keep the exhaust from getting full of soot? Hold on that's s silly question isn't it, that's what the dpf used to do right? anyway if it has already been removed, chances are I've already been mapped then? Sure I read that you need a remap to prevent the ecu from detecting a fault. Getting a little confused now!

Indeed I thought that without the DPF present the car may throw a code after a while. Removal of the DPF usually liberates a few extra ponies and a few extra MPG.

So might this mean that I'm already remapped! In a way I'll be glad to save some money but I was looking forward to some more power and responsiveness as to be honest theres no punch at low revs which is what bothers me, also the Mpg is pretty bad around town, like 28-32 and I.hardly ever boot it. Now what then? Rolling road? Or race it I mean compare it with another 170! how else do I find out if it's had dpf out and been remapped? Does the soot covered tips defiantly mean it's been taken out?

Yours may have not had a DPF from factory as did mine and yes mine is a TDV variant and has the DPF listed in the options code.

I hope this is the case, if I'll ring audi and give them my reg to see if they know if it was built with or without but it's 56 plate so I thought they all had dpf until 08.
