rear diff removal help

hi guys im looking to change my rear diff on my s3 as its got a slight whirring and i have managed to get one with 20k on for a good price ,

anyhow , has anyone undertaken this and can put any insight into this !

do you have to drop the subframe or can you get it out with everything bolted up ?

I doubt you'll be able to get it out as propshaft goes to it then i think you will have to remove some exhuast heat shields and probably part of the exhaust,not definate but seems to ring a bell from last time we swapped the prop on one
